stacking the shelves #27

CHRISTMAS IS OVER, bookworms! I counted down from fifty-something days and now IT’S GONE! I guess now we can count down to 364 days, right? (Or 365… because 2016 is a leap year? I don’t know. This stuff confuses me.) The good news is that with Christmas comes lots of books. And I have quite the stack this year.

emily

SEVEN BOOKS. (Plus one on my brand-new Kindle Paperwhite, YEEESSSS.) (Oh oh oh AND a $10 B&N GIFT CARD FOR MUA.) My family knows me so well.

Starting from the bottom:

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: Can we just go completely crazy right now with the excitement, because I’m telling you, this book is the next big thing. And I WILL be on The Red Queen train. I missed it for a bunch of other popular books (like… um… the Divergent series, which loads have you have read and finally I’m catching up) but I shall be apart of this one! I read it a few weeks ago but now I OWN IT! But that’s not all.

emily

DO YOU SEE THAT? Do you see it?? That’s SIGNED. Apparently it’s the time of year for Barnes & Noble to get a bunch of signed books, so when I saw that they had Red Queen signed, I flipped out. I bought a copy for my pen pal Brooke, but not for myself. (Because I’m not made of money, evidently.) We ended up at B&N two times in a week (oh the joy!) and I was super sad because they didn’t have any more signed copies! BUT MY MOM, bookworms. She’s such a sneaky sneaky lady. (My dad, too. It’s no wonder I get it from them.) She bought the last one! I WILL LOVE HER FOREVER.

The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz: For the first time in a while, I actually picked this one up myself instead of seeing it on Goodreads or one of your blogs. The cover caught my attention, because it’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s a historical fiction, too, and based on the author’s grandmother. EEP.

emily

The Golden Braid by Melanie Dickerson: Melanie Dickerson is the best. Not only does she write some fabulous teen Christian fiction, it’s actually good. I crave some clean fiction, particularly with some romance – is that too much to ask? – and apparently it is. Yes, there are always titles like My Amish Boyfriend, but I really have no desire to read that. But Melanie Dickerson’s books are always amazing (I’ve given away several of her books and you can read my reviews for The Captive Maiden, The Huntress Of Thornbeck Forest, and The Princess Spy.)

Last In A Long Line Of Rebels by Lisa Lewis Tyre: Now this is a book my aunt got me, because it so happens she’s a friend of the author’s! HOW COOL IS THAT. I don’t think people realize how cool it is to be friends with an author. I mean, do you realize that your friend creates and talks to people in their head and writes thousands of words, sometimes hundreds and then edits and edits and edits so you can enjoy writing that is somewhat sane? it’s pretty awesome. This book looks pretty good, too, so I’m excited to read it.

The Elite and The One by Kiera Cass: I OWN THE ENTIRE SELECTION SERIES YAAAY. If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know how much I love these books. And now I own allll of them. AND TWO ARE SIGNED. (Which means for my cousin who wants to read them – yessss Sydney yesssss – she can’t borrow the first or fourth book. Sorry, Syd, you’re outta luck.) Now I must wait endlessly for The Crown, which comes out May 3rd while I’m in the middle of the Caribbean somewhere. Sigh… you think Mexico or Jamaica will have a copy? Because I want that book the DAY it comes out. AND I’LL BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN. NOOOO. (sorry mom and dad I promise I’m not really complaining about the cruise.)

Coming Apart: Book Nine In The Main Street Series by Ann M. Martin: This series has been a favorite of mine for five years now. (Almost six?) That is to say, it’s one of my oldest favorite books. I’ve been re-reading them for a long time. Except for book nine. Because I owned books one-eight and then TEN. NO NINE. It’s driven my crazy for three long years and finally I own the COMPLETE series. I feel so accomplished. Thanks Grandma!

Oh and we can’t forget about the book I’m currently reading, which I borrowed from the library on my NEW KINDLE PAPERWHITE. (it is so awesome, I may even write a post dedicated to why it is so great. I really love it! ME. LOVING an e-reader. Needless to say, I am pretty excited.) So I’m reading Insurgent. It’s… a bit slow, as I’m smack-dab in the middle… but I’m sure it will get better. Once I get over the middle point.

Also: in case you didn’t see, I’m doing a big giveaway – TWO, actually! – for a copy of one of my favorite 2015 books and a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card! You can enter that here and also take a minute or two to do a survey for me. I want to see what you like about my blog and how I can make it better in 2016! I’m loving all your answers so far, particularly the ones you answered yourself. 🙂 You’re all so sweet, it made my day reading your answers! I’ll be answering some of the questions and talking about the results sometime next week.

what are you reading? and what did you get for christmas??

stacking the shelves #26 & a christmas melanie dickerson giveaway!

Hi everybody! Gosh, it’s been a while since I’ve done a Stacking the Shelves, hasn’t it? In case you’re not familiar with Stacking the Shelves, it’s all about sharing the books you’ve gotten this week – physical, e-book, from the library, or book store, hosted by Tynga’s ReviewsIt’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a STS and I’m excited to finally be back to it, because guys. This stack looks pretty darn awesome.

emily

Whale, it is short… but DON’T JUDGE A STACK BY ITS HEIGHT.

Yesterday my Christmas gifts from the best pen pal in the whole wide world  – you know her, she comments on your blog all the time – hi Brooke! – came and ahhhhhh I. Just. Flipped. Out.

Up there on the top of the stack we’ve got The Mysterious Benedict Society, which I’ve been meaning to read since third or fourth grade so it’s about time I get to that. From what Brooke has told me, something about it gives her that Series Of Unfortunate Events feel, even though they’re not very similar. So I’m anxious to read it ’cause fifth grade me would be all over that.

Next… NEXT…. Ohhhh mah Lordy folks, it’s While You Were Gone, the sequel to Now That You’re Here, which I finished at 3 AM because of the cuteness of Danny and Eevee and thanks to my good friend Hayden. Fun fact: Hayden’s mom is a friend of the author, Miss Amy Nichols. It’s that whole 6-people-away-from-knowing-everyone-in-the-world thing, ya know? (Which, on a side note, means I know a lot of cool authors.) Hayden was sweet enough to lend me both books so I returned her the first one in exchange for this one and it’s going to be a fun Christmas break, I can tell you that.

And last, but CERTAINLY not least… we have CinderPretty sure you’ve heard of it? At least on this blog, anyway, huh? Weeeelll I OWN IT NOW! AHHH I love Brooke so so much. But that’s not even the best part.

emily

IT’S SIGNED! By the Marissa Meyer, the author of The Lunar Chronicles, THE Marissa Meyer. And it’s even personalized. To me. Emily. (Insert temporary made-up last name here.) Of course, Brooke had the amazing opportunity to actually meet Marissa Meyer (meanwhile I’m over here drooling when she comes back telling me all about it, so Miss Meyer and I have a lot to talk about why she didn’t come down to The Georgia) annnnnd. AHHHH. I’m just a ball of excitement this morning! I love ya Brooke!

So those were the books of this week! Hopefully it won’t be too much longer till the next Stacking the Shelves because Christmas is just THIRTEEN DAYS AWAY. Thirteen days, thirteen days! Less than two weeks! Which means todaaaayyy, just for fun, because it is the season of giving, I bring you a giveaway hosted by the amazing Melanie Dickerson. (And a shout-out to Miss Dickerson who was kind enough to sponsor the giveaway. Thank you!)

You all know how much I love Melanie Dickerson’s books (you can see my reviews for The Huntress Of Thornbeck Forest, The Princess Spy, and The Captive Maiden), particularly her fairy tale retellings, and her Christian spin on it. That’s why I had such a hard time deciding which book to giveaway, as Miss Dickerson was happy to give a copy of any one of them. But… because it is her newest book, and I know several of you are just as excited as I am to read it, I decided to go with The Golden Braid, which just hit shelves November 17th, and you can learn more about here.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So enter and enjoy! The giveaway ends December 19th. I will email Miss Dickerson the winner and she will have your book sent out to you! Oh – and one more thing – the giveaway will be open to U.S. residents ONLY please!

what books did you get this week? and what melanie dickerson books have you read? do you want to read any? which ones? and tell me – what do you think of my copy of cinder??!! ahhhh i’m so so excited!

stacking the shelves #25

Hey everyone! Sorry for not posting yesterday… I got behind on posts and I’ve lost my MIND over The Lunar Chronicles, GOSH. WHAT IS IT DOING TO ME OMG. I also haven’t done a stacking the shelves in forever because I haven’t gotten anymore books lately! I HAVE NO NEED. I have five bazillion of them I need to read but right now I’m completely transfixed with The Lunar Chronicles… and I may or may not have a huge crush on Wolf. (He’s my favorite, imagine that.) Speaking of, my review for Scarlet will be up Monday!

emily

Dear neighborhood kids passing by as I stood in the middle of my yard in bunny slippers for this picture: don’t judge. We all have our quirks and mine happens to be taking pictures of books in my pajamas. I know what you’re thinking, “that weird home-school girl again.” But it turned about super cute and I DON’T CARE.*

*Kay maybe I care a little bit but LEAVE ME & MY BABIES ALONE.

Winter by Marissa Meyer: OMG I CAN’T YOU GUYS. I DON’T WANT THIS SERIES TO END BUT I MUST FINISH. I’m at 230/550 pages into Cress, the third book in the series, and… I’m dying. Ohhhh my gosssshhh. Plus: Wolf. And Thorne. (Oh and thanks, mom, for buying this for me!! Otherwise I would have been in debt because – Christmas gifts burning up my wallet, urgh – and I NEED THIS NOW. Love you! xoxo)

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: Much better than Cinder, in my opinion… though I did love still having Cinder and Kai’s perspectives in it. Review coming to you Monday! Wherein I flip out over WOLF. Can somebody wrap him up for me for Christmas? because… I’d love you forever.

Cress by Marissa Meyer: EEP I love Cress! She’s a lot more like me than Cinder or Scarlet and I totally love her and Thorne together. Can’t wait to finish!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: I was standing in the checkout line at Sam’s buying (okay MOM buying) Winter and and the cashier noticed the book and said “Oh I need to get my daughter to read this.” I then proceeded to squeal and tell her how good it was and she said if I liked The Lunar Chronicles I needed to read Red Queen. And, SURPRISE, I already had it at home! I’m excited to see what this is like… I have no idea what to expect but if it’s anything at all like The Lunar Chronicles I’ll be hooked.

Going Rogue by Robin Benway: I read the first in the Also Known As series in September in… a day? (Creds to Trisha for the amazing recommendation) It was AMAZING. Super light and all fluff, but also captivating and mysterious! I’m anxious to read this after The Lunar Chronicles, because I may need to give my heart a break… (it’s currently breaking into a thousand tiny pieces, just sayin’. Thanks a lot guys.) But on another note, it has Jesse and Maggie and they are positively cuteness overload.

The Teashop Girls by Laura Schaefer: Errrmm… I’ve heard/seen this around a little but haven’t picked it up, just because I had so many other books (with lots of recommendations behind them) waiting for me. I just didn’t really want to waste any time on a book I hadn’t heard much about and/or wasn’t sure would be good or not. BUT it does look adorable and again, I may need a lighter read after The Lunar Chronicles. I can absolutely see myself loving this a few years ago, so maybe I’ll enjoy it. 🙂

what books did you get this week? and what do you think of mine? and peoples: talk to me about the lunar chronicles! i’m in LOOOOVE.

Emily

stacking the shelves #24

Hi everybody! It’s been a busybusybusy week. Though it did get off to a great start – last Monday morning, my dad woke me up by asking me if I wanted to go to IHOP, so the whole family ended up starting the day off right. With sugary, syrupy, pancakes and bacon! 😉 And yesterday my dad and I went to 2nd & Charles, so I picked up four new books to add to the ever-growing. collection.

emily

Aren’t they beautiful??! I’m so excited to own all of them –  especially The Romeo & Juliet Code and Ten Rules For Living With My Sister, since I own both of the sequels to these books. Now I own both! I actually haven’t read the sequel to Ten Rules For Living With My Sister, so now that I own the first one maybe I can re-read it and pick the other one back up!

Next is Coffehouse Angel. I heard about this one a looong time ago, I’m not even sure where. Most likely a book blog I’ve lost track of, but anyways it’s been on my *mental* TBR list for ages. It wasn’t until I saw it at the used bookstore last night that I remembered I wanted to read it! As far as I can tell, it’s about a girl who gives a cup of coffee to a homeless guy and it turns out he’s an angel? Maybe something along the lines of a Touched by an Angel episode? Hoping it’s good! And if not, it’s only two bucks down the drain. Boy, do I love used bookstores.

Last is Once Upon a Marigold, which I LOVE. (I also love Twice & Thrice Upon a Marigold.) 🙂 I can’t remember if I read this two or three years ago… but I do remember absolutely falling in love with this adorable fairy tale. I’m planning on re-reading it this fall, and hopefully writing a review for it since I read it pre-book-blogging days. I’m wondering if maybe I can track down a book report I wrote for school on it… I think I read it in fifth or sixth grade so maybe a little digging around underneath my bed will find it, LOL!

That’s about it for today but I’ll talk to you all on Monday with this month’s edition of Monthly Must-Reads that will make you FALL in love! Also be sure to stop by Trisha’s blog Monday to see her list. Until then,

Emily

stacking the shelves #22

Hey, everyone! First off, sorry this is coming a day late. Yesterday was an exhausting day and the internet was crazy. (I couldn’t get the pictures to send.) Anyways, I wrote this up last night, so here goes!

It has been a LONG past day. So, here I am, in the huge room in the condo on the beach in Florida we’re staying in. (That was a long sentence, lol!) Sydney (my cousin) is looking over my shoulder as I type. 😉 This afternoon on the drive down to Florida we stopped to have lunch with my Grandma, Grandpop, Great-Aunt and Uncle, Aunt, Uncle, cousins, and baby cousins! (Whew, that was a lot!) And, of course, I got books. (!!!!!!)

On the bottom and on the tippy-top I have books from the Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen!!!! My Grandma bought me the ENTIRE series in hardback (whoo for all the books matching in hard-back!) and get this. My Aunt Corrie ordered me a SIGNED copy of The False Prince! I know you’ll be jealous, Brooke and Madison… mwahahahaha.

emily

Above the three Ascendance Trilogy books is Writer to Writer by Gail Carson Levine. I mentioned getting this in yesterday’s birthday post (eep!! Still can’t believe I’m fourteen finally!) and my dad getting this for me. I never even said anything personally to him, but he read on the blog that I wanted it and got it for me! So now I own the book, which is really great, because there are SOOO many tips on writing in it. 🙂

Next up in the stack is Upside Down In the Middle of Nowhere by Julie T. Lamana. I had seen it at B&N yesterday (and before then, too) and added it to my TBR on Goodreads. My mom sent my great-aunt Connie a list to my (NEVER-ENDING) list of want-to-read books and she bought this one and the next one for me. Upside Down In the Middle of Nowhere is a (fictitious) story about a ten-year-old girl during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. I’m really excited to read about it; the hurricane hit parts of Georgia and some of our friends ten years ago so it hits pretty close to home… (no pun intended, haha!)

Oh and also: The cover is just so darn cute! It’s simple but very eye-catching. LOVE.

emily

Last but not least is Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff. I’ve only read one Lisa Graff book; A Tangle of Knots a few years ago. I don’t completely remember it but I do remember that I loved it! (Another one to add my never-ending to-be-re-read list!!) This one looks like a cute read, too.

Oh, and I almost forgot! My Grandma also got me a Barnes & Noble gift card which I definitely will be using soon! I’ll tell you what I get next week (or sometime this week if I post in between Monday and Wednesday.) She also ordered me this shirt. Can you believe how cute it is?!

The words are from “Pride & Prejudice.” I cannot wait to wear it. It’s so me! My grandma knows me well. 😀

And here’s a sneak-peek picture I took today of our view.

emily

*sigh* I’m getting used to this. Don’t worry, I’ll be posting more pictures at the end of the week when we get home! 😉

xoxo

Emily

stacking the shelves #21

Hi, guys! Sooo it’s Friday night, and I’m just looking at all the books I have on hold at the library… and drooling… there’s six in total so hopefully my mom can take me tomorrow morning! I’ve also just realized that I haven’t posted a STS since August 8th! It’s been too long ’cause I love Stacking the Shelves (both the meme and the physical stacking-the-shelves, haha), but it’s been a busy busy busy past month or so. In case you don’t know (but ya probably do…), It’s all about sharing the books you’ve gotten this week – physical, e-book, from the library, or book store, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

the books this week

*insert excited emoji here* THEY’RE SO BEAUTIFUL. There’s just sooooo many books, ya’ll. I think I may actually cry. There’s so many recommended by all of you – from fellow bloggers, friends, mom, myself, and creepy ads on websites… (you know, when they’re ads for things you’ve been looking at?! From the cookies on the computer?! Hahaha that sounds so funny “From the cookies on the computer?!”)

It’s a very large stack this week. I told you I may cry.

The Last Sin Eater by Francine Rivers: My mom and I made a deal. She reads a book I want her to read, I read a book she wants me to read. So she read (or rather, listened to), A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner, and I… still haven’t read this book. BUT IT’S NOT MY FAULT! I tried listening to it but the truth is I’m terrible at listening to audio books and I was 45 millionth in line for the book at the library. So my mom finally ordered it for me and now we own it! Also, I think I may make another deal with her after this so she’ll read Matched by Allie Condie.

Betsy-Tacy and Tib by Maud Hart Lovelace: It’s the second book in the Betsy-Tacy series, and I’m excited to read it. (Scratch that, I’m excited to read ALLLL of these books.) I’m really more excited to read the later books – see, there are ten in the series, but the first few are when the girls are super young – the first starts when they’re five – but the later ones go all the way to when they’re in college and get married! But I can’t just SKIP the first few! Besides, they’re super-duper-duper-short. I’ll probably read this one in a sitting.

Writer to Writer by Gail Carson Levine: I’ve been meaning to read this forever, but I just never got it. Finally, my library got it! I’m still hoping to get it for my birthday so I can own it, because owning writing resources is pretty important. Gail Carson Levine covers sooo many topics of writing in here. And I love the subtitle! “From think to ink.”

Cinder by Marrissa Meyer: I tried this one. A month or two ago… but I didn’t get into it and the book HONESTLY DIDN’T SMELL GOOD (NO, I’m serious! It smelled like some person’s house and their house did not smell… nice.) and I just… well, being the lazy bookworm I sometimes can be, I DNF’d it. (Did Not Finish.) But Madison and Brooke, two awesome blog followers and good bookish friends, read and loved this series, and I shall see what the big deal about it is. I really don’t like to be left out of the fun. (Although I am a pickypickypicky reader and usually am.) So we shall see how one Cinderella-cyborg falls in love with a human and how they end happily ever after. (RIGHT, BROOKE & MADISON. IT ENDS HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER. RIGHT.)

You know, ’cause the main character in the book is a cyborg?! Hahaha!

Crossed by Allie Condie… (and) Reached by Allie Condie: Remember I said I was gonna get my mom to read Matched by Miss Condie? Well, these are the second and third books in the trilogy. I’m a tad nervous to read them because I’ve heard very mixed reviews. A lot of people say the second book is boring… soooo we’ll see. Hopefully I’ll like them, and if I don’t, I’ll still read them because I cannot condone not finishing a series.

Also Known As by Robin Benway: Trisha read this and said I would like it. And she loved it, so I thought “Why not?” As far as I can remember, it’s about spies… and high school. Sounds good to me!

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins: So this one actually sounds kind of weird. WHAT KIND OF GENRE IS THIS?! To quote the blurb, “Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara…. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.” WHAAT? I don’t know. But it’s a fairly popular trilogy and can we talk about the cover?! The strand of pearls hanging from the pointy-looking-knife? That sounds like me on one of my moodier days. Or rather, any teenage girl, I’d say. Plus it’s pink! My favorite shade of pink. Harper Price and I might get along.

The Boy on the Porch by Sharon Creech: My kindle recommended this to me a looong time ago and it looks so cute! What can I say. I’m a sucker for a sweet synopsis and a really attractive cover.

in other non-bookish related news…

MY BIRTHDAY IS IN SIX DAYSSSS. Six! I’ve been counting down for four weeks. Yeah, I’m that person.

I’m so excited! On Friday (my actual birthday!) my family and I will probably go to Longhorn and Barnes & Noble (my two favorite places!)… just like last year! I also want to get a picture in B&N like I did last year, to compare the two pictures… 13 vs 14! 🙂 In fact, if you look at the post I made last year here, you can see the picture of me and where I said “Last night my family and I headed to the heaven that is the restaurant Longhorn (my favorite restaurant!), and then to (guess!) Barnes & Noble.”

Lol! I guess I haven’t changed much in the past year. Except this year I’ve got a major hair cut (I ended up donating eight inches a few months ago) and I’ve got contacts. And I guarantee you I’m at least four or five… maybe six! inches taller than last year. Seriously, it’s ridiculous! I grow an inch everyday! I ordered a skirt and got it a month or so later and my measurements were WRONG. Already I’d grown enough so that the skirt was too tight.

Any who, then on Saturday, we’ll be driving down to Florida to spend a week at the beach. On our way down, we’ll be stopping to have lunch with my dad’s side of the family for my birthday-barbecue, haha. Question: do any of you have any book recommendations for beach reading? I always love a light romance when I’m on vacation. 🙂

Until Monday!

Emily

stacking the shelves #20

I got a lot of books this week! I haven’t had a stack this tall in a while; but my family and I went to 2nd & Charles today (a used book store nearby; it’s a chain bookstore, so check and see if it’s in your area! It’s seriously AWESOME!) and I bought four books! I got four books that my library didn’t have (shame on you, library), and I’m super super super excited! (As you can imagine.) 😀 Sorry for this coming later in the day (it’s almost 8:30 right now – my time, that is – which feels weird, because I don’t usually write blog posts at night.) But it’s still Saturday, so it’s still stacking the shelves day!

emily

Look at all those books! Sorry if it’s a tad dark in the picture; the top there is Romeo Blue by Phoebe Stone, in case you can’t see it. The three bottom books are library books, and the top four books are from 2nd & Charles. (AKA CHEAP – don’t you love that??!)

I’ll start from the bottom. Way down there is Off the Page by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. (Remember my review for Between the Lines? This is the sequel!) I first found the book from an ad on Goodreads for this video:

Doesn’t that look funny? I can’t wait to read Off The Page. Between the Lines was adorable, and I just love Oliver! 😀 Gosh darn it, why can’t a fictional prince come to life for me?!

Preferably this prince. Don’t know if it’s possible to fall in love with a cartoon, but I absolutely love Flynn Rider. 😀

The second and third books on my stack are The Runaway King and The Shadow Throne; the second and third books in the Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen. (The review for the first book, The False Prince, is coming your way on August 24th.) I LOVED the first book! Seriously, it was AMAZING! I think I’m obsessed.

The fourth book is Here Today, by Ann M. Martin. You guys know how much I LUUURRVE Ann’s books, and I completely forgot that I haven’t read this one! I didn’t even have to look at the ‘about’ to get it. Plus it’s a hardcover and was only four bucks! You can’t beat that.

More like “Saving money to buy MORE books fund.”

The next two are two of Elizabeth Eulberg’s books! I reviewed the first book I read by Miss Eulberg, Better Off Friends, a few weeks ago. It was the cutest, fluffiest contemporary romance! I ate it up in a day. 😉 Since my library didn’t have these two books – Prom & Prejudice (Pride & Prejudice contemporary retelling – YES), and The Lonely Hearts Club (which I’m pretty sure is a series), I went ahead and bought them. I got another hardback, Prom & Prejudice, for only six dollars! (Not as great a deal as four, but I’ll take it!)

Okay, so the last book on the top of the stack is Romeo Blue, by Phoebe Stone. I read The Romeo and Juliet Code, the first book in the Felicity Bathburn series, in June or July. (I think maybe even longer ago? I don’t know…) so I’m hoping I still remember the characters in the book! I’ll probably catch on. What stinks is I borrowed the first book from the library, so now I own the second book and not the first! (I’ll take this as a great opportunity to point out to my family and friends that my birthday is in FOUR WEEKS & SIX DAYS, so, um… ahem. wink wink. Felicity Bathburn series, The Romeo & Juliet Code. 🙂 )

So that waaaaas… seven books? SEVEN BOOKS! Hmm… should I try for seven books in seven days? I don’t KNOW! I might try. Maybe. Sorry I didn’t talk about cool stuff I did this week, and the books I read… it’s late and I’m tired (well actually I kind of want to sign off and go read… which book? OMG, I don’t even know.) But you can always keep track of the books I read on my Goodreads profile! Good night… or good morning! Until Monday!

Emily

stacking the shelves #19

Back with another Stacking the Shelves, folks! It’s all about sharing the books you’ve gotten this week – physical, e-book, from the library, or book store, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. This week, I have three books that look so good! I’ve already started The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen, and OH SWEET apple pie, it’s fantastic. I’m only seven chapters in (it’s Friday right now, so tomorrow – when you’re reading this – I’ll probably be further in), but I’m sooo captivated. Thanks, Madison, for recommending it to me! (And one other person? Sorry, I can’t remember who!)

the stack

The stack this week is pretty small. (Compared to others, that is!) I talked about these three books in my post last Friday, The Books I Need To Read, but I still wanted to do a stacking the shelves today. These three are the ones I was needing to pick up from the library in that post. I’m so excited about reading them, I have butterflies in my stomach when I think about it! Wow. That says a lot about me, doesn’t it?! 😀

emily

And you know how much I love taking pictures of Mittens, so…

emily

He’s rubbing against them, but it totally looks like he’s smiling! (I swear the cat really does smile.) He’s like “Ah, yes, I see you’re taking pictures of your books again. Might as well look cute. Ooh… ooh, yes, BEGONE, flea!” I guess they make for a nice neck-scratcher. 😉

books i read this week

emily

I read two books this week; I really would have wanted to read more, but I ended up putting one book down. It was Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children. I had really high expectations for the book, and I wanted to read it, but there was too much bad language. My mom and dad thought it was best I put it down, too. So then I decided to (finally) pick up The Huntress Of Thornbeck Forest by Melanie Dickerson.

As soon as I review it (probably no earlier than August 17), I’ll also be hosting a giveaway! I was given an extra in a giveaway where I won the book, so I’m going to give one of those away. I just finished it today (that is, Friday), and it was great! The middle was kind of slow, but the ending was great. I guessed the ending at about thirty or forty pages left, but it was one of those books where I wasn’t sure everything that needed to happen could happen within forty pages. It did, though, and I loved it.

Apple and Rain was also super good. There was some heavy content (which I’ll explain more of in my review on the 10th), but it wasn’t anything too bad. It kind of dragged on for a little, though.

what happened on the blog

Just in case you missed it…

coming up this week

  • On Monday, I’ll be reviewing Eight Keys and Rain Reign… but be warned, I was really confused on how I felt about these books.
  • Wednesday, I’m going to be apart of the Dear Opl spotlight tour! There will be a giveaway, but the only way you can enter is with a twitter account… (I’m not hosting it.) So hopefully a few of you have accounts, or there will be added different ways to enter. I did email the publisher about it, but we’ll see!
  • Annnd on Friday, I’ll be writing some LISTS! Oh, beautiful lists. (I love writing them.) 😉

what books have you read/gotten this week? anything cool coming up for you this week?

stacking the shelves #18

Hey, everyone! Well, here I am today with my usual Stacking the Shelves. It’s all about sharing the books you’ve gotten this week – physical, e-book, from the library, or book store, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. This week, I got five books from the library (with about four more on hold…) You know me, haha!

Magic In The Mix by Annie Barrows: In fifth grade, I read The Magic Half by Annie Barrows and loved it. (My younger sister, Anna, did too – it was her favorite book at the time.) When I found out there was a sequel last year, I couldn’t wait to read it! I finally got it from the library, after a year of wanting to read it. It looks super cute. 🙂

Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan: I’ve heard a lot of great things about this one, and I loved another of Sarah Crossan’s books, The Weight Of Water, so I’m excited to see how this one goes. Plus the cover is gorgeous.

Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin: GYGLYURYUR:)*)(*GJAOI:IW …. that’s how I feel about THIS book! I’m a HUGE Ann M. Martin fan, OK?! I’ve been waiting to read this for so long. It looks amazing.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I’ve been wanting to read this for a little while; but I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about reading it. I honestly have NO idea what to expect, and I’m not even 100% sure it’s something I’d be into. And I’ve heard several mixed reviews about it… buuut they’re making it into a movie this year, and I can’t resist. And the cover and photographs are just so intriguing! So we’ll see. But I am excited about it. That counts for something. Have any of you read it??

I also ended up returning a book to the library that I got this week (and DNF’d). Take A Bow, by Elizabeth Eulberg. After reading Better Off Friends by Miss Eulberg, I was super excited about her other books. (I’m a sucker for a cute, fluffy romance.) But I wasn’t comfortable with one of the characters being homosexual, so I decided to put it down. It seemed like a great book, but it’s not something I want to read. I’d still like to read her other books, though. Sadly, my library doesn’t have them right now, so I might see if I can borrow them from my library on my Kindle. Have you read any of her books? They all sound cute! I especially want to read Prom & Prejudice… 😀 You’ll be getting my review for Better Off Friends on Monday.

Right now, I’m reading Rain Reign, since I’ve wanted to read it the longest. I’m only on chapter two, but I loved the first chapter so far. 😉

books i read this week

emily

I read four books this week! Not bad, if I do say so. I finally read the first book in the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace, and loved it. It reminded me of an older Ramona book (by Beverly Cleary.) Of course, I already told you how much I loved Better Off Friends – you’ll be getting my complete review on Monday! Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt was wonderful, as well. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as One For The Murphys, but I did give it four stars. And finally, Eight Keys. It wasn’t as good as I was expecting… overall, I liked it, but there were several KEY flaws. (What?! I couldn’t help it!! 😀 ) That one gets three stars.

what happened on the blog

coming up this week

  • a 4-star review of Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg
  • a guest post swap with Daisy at A Bookish Flower
  • and an (undecided) list on Friday! Any ideas for what list I should do?

so what books have you read/acquired this week? anything exciting happening on your blog? i’d love to hear all about it!

stacking the shelves #17

Hi, everybody! Today’s Stacking the Shelves is a short one, but I’m super-duper excited to read both of these books! (You have no idea!) I’ve heard fantastic things about both of these. I have high expectations. In case you’re not familiar with Stacking the Shelves, it’s all about sharing the books you’ve gotten this week – physical, e-book, from the library, or book store, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

There’s the stack! Like I said, pretty short, but I got a lot of books from the library last week that I’m still not through with. Fish in a Tree, by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, has been recommended to me by several of you, including Miss Erin E. Moulton, who I had the pleasure of interviewing last month. And after reading Miss Hunt’s first book, One for the Murphys (which I rated five stars!) I’m sure I love Fish in a Tree. As for Better off Friends, I’ve heard several bloggers say they enjoyed it, and it sounds like a really cute contemporary book. I finally get to cross both of these off my TBR list!

books i read this week

emily

I read three books this week: The Wish by Gail Carson Levine, Rapunzel: The One With All the Hair by Wendy Mass, and Ship of Dolls by Shirley Parenteau. You’ll be getting reviews of both The Wish and Rapunzel this Monday, along with Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. The first two books I read this week were great, but I LOVED Ship of Dolls! It’s based on a little-known true event in 1926 – and the story was incredible! I just happened to find this book in the library, and it was fantastic! I’ll probably be posting this review on the 20th. Keep your eye out for it. 😉

what happened on the blog

  • On Monday, I shared pictures with you of my family’s last-minute trip to Florida
  • Wednesday, I talked about book slumps – something I’ve been meaning to talk about for a while.
  • And on Friday, a wonderful commenter and my favorite pen pal, Brooke, shared some tips for organizing bookshelves

what to look forward to this week

  • Not one, not two, but THREE mini reviews this Monday
  • The ULTIMATE book tag, which I’ve been tagged to do by Daisy!
  • And I’m not sure what’s happening on Friday… I guess I’ll leave you in suspense! 😉

so what exciting things did you do this week? (online or off?) what books have you read/are going to read?
