Oh. My. Stars.

I skipped a shower for this book. I stayed up till 1:30 A.M., which, unlike most teenagers, is a rare thing for me. I wouldn’t let myself eat until I finished the next chapter. I am LOSING MY MIND! And I keep telling people that I cannot believe myself, that I cannot be enjoying a complete sci-fi book, but oh my flying pancakes I’m head over heels!

Wheeeeeere should I begin??? Ummm. Oh. CRESS. The newest character in this four-book series. Every book adds a new perspective – Cinder and Scarlet, and now Cress (short for Crescent), and together they shall save the world from evil Queen Levana of Luna. (Aka the moon.) Meanwhile, the girls have some pretty smokin’ dudes who tag along and the whole series is this epic romance-sci-fi-fairy-tale thing. So Cress, the newest character, is a Rapunzel retelling.

Fun fact: I LOVE Rapunzel. Even though the only thing I really have to compare Cress to is Disney’s version and various other book retellings… I love her. Also… I love her prince. Typically in a retelling, the characters of the fairy tale have the same personality and background story (with a twist, obviously). And Rapunzel is one of my favorite fairy tales. I’ve also always had a crush on Eugene (or Flynn, whatever floats your satellite – HAHAHA) and Cress’ “Eugene” – Captain Carswell Thorne – is hilarious. I loved how things get serious and he’s there ready to crack a joke! And he’s cute, according to my wild imagination, so win-win!

I have to say that Cress is my favorite character thus far. I think she’s a lot like me (at least more like me than Cinder or Scarlet) and she’s so sweet and naïve and GOSH, I just want to pinch her cheeks and give her a big hug. She’s a romantic – she fell in love with Captain Thorne before she even met him, which… For me… I can relate to, cause I fall in love with some people after only knowing them for two pages. 😉 She’s also just… ADORABLE, I can’t even describe it! So yes, loved Cress.

I missed Scarlet’s perspective though! I didn’t get a lot of her but I’m sure I will in Winter.

Cress is the definition of a page-turner. The whole crew was split up for the majority of the book, so I liked switching perspectives from one person to another. It got pretty tense there for a while, but I loved the scenes where everyone was together, goofing off like normal teenagers in between saving the world.

Can I also mention the length of these awesome books?!! This one was five hundred and fifty pages! And – get this – Winter is EIGHT HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN! 827! So if you’ll excuse me Imma read that now.

I read five books this month, which isn’t my best, but it’s definitely a lot better than last month’s. I read The Witch Of Blackbird Pond for school (and it was amazing!) plus it’s my last school-required book for the year so yay for blog-required books! And then, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, those other four up there. That would be The Lunar Chronicles. The series you convinced me to read and I fell madly in love with. You can read my reviews for Cinder and Scarlet (the titles link to the review) if you want, ’cause then we can talk about them and gibber on and on and on! Hi all! By now, you know how much I love talking about myself. I could go on and on and on and on and on… online that is. For some reason I get shy when people ask me about myself offline. Is that weird?! Probably. But I always do feel more comfortable online than offline, which might be a bad thing but oh well. And look at there – another thing you know about me! I put a lot of myself into this blog, ’cause it’s the one place I can always be 100% myself and I love that. How tall are you? 5’7… I swear I haven’t stopped growing since I was eleven.

Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what is it? I can touch my tongue to my nose. I could also consume one whole pizza in a surprisingly short amount of time if my mom would let me.

What is your biggest blog-related pet peeve? Typos. I know I probably make them a lot, too, but… uggghhh that irks me half to death. Also when people misspell contractions, but that’s just a general pet peeve.

What is your biggest non-blog-related pet peeve? Cliques. I hate feeling left out or not apart of the group, even if said person(s) aren’t trying to make me feel that way. I’m not the most talkative person in public situations so it sometimes takes me a while to feel apart of a group. Plus it’s just plain annoying.

What’s your favorite song? Currently… Cheek to Cheek by Fred Astaire or any Christmas song by Michael Buble. But this changes nearly everyday.

What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours? Hannah Everly skirts!! She happens to be the sister of Rachel Coker (who writes the most amazing books) and I am in love with them all! Fun fact: I’m wearing one of her skirts in my profile picture.

What is your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone? BLOGGING. Or reading. Or writing. Oh! Or watching Boy Meets World orrrr Gilmore Girls. YAAASSSS.

What’s your favorite junk food? Reese’s chocolate (whoever put peanut butter and chocolate together is the Albert Einstein of all sweets) or chewy Chips Ahoy. Seriously, why even bother making the hard ones.

Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names? I’ve got two cats – Mittens (who we believe to be part dog) and Maisy (who is full-on sassy cat) – and a dog, Beasley. (We’ve had him for three or four weeks and I am in looove. I’ve missed having a dog since Oreo got sick a few years ago.) 🙁 Oh and three turtles – Squirt, Tutu, and Zoom – four fish (Flo, Speedy, Gil, Alpha), and a snail (Gary!)

What are your favorite fiction and nonfiction books? Fiction… ooh there’s so many. Code Name Verity, The Book Thief, The Selection series, The Ascendance Trilogy, The Lunar Chronicles. And nonfiction would be probably be The Hiding Place.

What’s your favorite beauty product? Concealer. If that’s all I have with me, I can make do. It covers the blemishes and dark circles under my eyes (iiiiiiit’s allergy season – year round for me, ugh) so BAM.

When were you last embarrassed? What happened? Alright, so… me and a friend were at the store when I went to use the restroom. A few of the stalls were out of order and there was a line (what else is new in the women’s bathroom) so it took a minute. When I came out there was a good-looking guy standing there and she goes “You took a while in there” and he walked AWAY before I could say there was a LINE SO IT’S NOT ME I PROMISE.

If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life what would it be? Coffee! Wait, scratch that. I mean creamer. With a little coffee inside.

What’s your favorite movie? You’ve Got Mail (helloooo Tom Hanks) (and, okay, cute book stores.) Or Tangled, because. Eugene.

What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep? Whale. This is awkward. I’ve got a year before high school. (Though if I’d been born ten days earlier I could have gone into kindergarten a year earlier GRR) buuuut definitely not prom queen, cheerleader, artist, prep, or jock. So? Nerd/Valedictorian/band geek? ACTUALLY I’m all of those things. I’m kind of a teacher’s pet. (wink wink Principal Mom.)

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? England. Mostly for the accents.

PC or Mac? Mac, is this even a question. PC’s… don’t get along with me.

Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse? He woke me up this morning with a giant lick on the face. (*waves* Hey Beasley!)

Favorite celebrity? T-Swizzle. Mostly her old songs, but I still love her.

Hello people of Earth. Today I shall try to write a proper review, but I kid you not if it looks more like this.

Marissa Meyer has blown me away. I bring you a review to the second book of The Lunar Chronicles, a series that never ever ever in a billion gazillion trillion years would I have picked up on my own. Two weeks ago, if you asked me if I’d like to read a book about cyborgs and people from the moon and Lunars-who-are-programmed-to-kill-and-act-like-wolves who fall in love and save the world and omgomgomg… I would have laughed so hard. 

I don’t even know where to begin… um. Okay. Scarlet and Wolf.

The romance was… odd, but phenomenal. From the very moment I met Wolf, I was on high alert. This book is a Little Red Riding Hood retelling, and I was preparing myself for a major twist in which Wolf was the bad guy. Throughout the book, I had no idea if he was good or bad, but two pages after meeting him I was head-over-heels. It wasn’t until the very last chapter I knew for sure, and let me just tell you. By the end of this book?

I… I just can’t compute. (Look at me, even using Lunar Chronicles jokes. GAH, YOU GUYS you’ve brought me to the dark side! You don’t even have cookies, but you have Wolf and Kai and I’m so in.)

Apparently, as each book in the series progresses, the previous characters’ perspectives are kept in the new book. I LOVE that! So I still got to stay with Cinder and Kai and Queen Levana, which was awesome. However, in the first book, Cinder, the romance was a let-down. I was promised more Kai moments in this one (aka: getting to know the beautiful Prince Kai more) and I was excited about that because he *seems* amazing but I still feel like I know next to nothing about him. Cinder and Kai’s relationship is still confusing at this point, but I’m only halfway through the series, so no making my mind about that yet!

The plot for Scarlet was beyond incredible. Again, Cinder wasn’t as amazing as I had expected (the plot was predictable and like I said, the romance was confusing) but Scarlet completely knocked my socks off. I already told you I could never make my mind up about Wolf, and… I basically couldn’t make my mind about ANYTHING in this book. Brooke kept telling me what an emotional roller coaster it was, and she was 100% right. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that gave me this many emotions at once.

I almost forgot one of my favorite characters! CAPTAIN THORNE. I’m so glad Marissa Meyer put him in the book, because right when things got mushy or serious, he cracked a joke and I was laughing out loud. LOVE.

That’s pretty much all I’ve got to say… at this point I’m just speechless, with butterflies already anticipating the next book!!! Good thing I’m not a booktuber, because there’s no WAY I could talk through this review.

Hey everyone! Sorry for not posting yesterday… I got behind on posts and I’ve lost my MIND over The Lunar Chronicles, GOSH. WHAT IS IT DOING TO ME OMG. I also haven’t done a stacking the shelves in forever because I haven’t gotten anymore books lately! I HAVE NO NEED. I have five bazillion of them I need to read but right now I’m completely transfixed with The Lunar Chronicles… and I may or may not have a huge crush on Wolf. (He’s my favorite, imagine that.) Speaking of, my review for Scarlet will be up Monday!

Winter by Marissa Meyer: OMG I CAN’T YOU GUYS. I DON’T WANT THIS SERIES TO END BUT I MUST FINISH. I’m at 230/550 pages into Cress, the third book in the series, and… I’m dying. Ohhhh my gosssshhh. Plus: Wolf. And Thorne. (Oh and thanks, mom, for buying this for me!! Otherwise I would have been in debt because – Christmas gifts burning up my wallet, urgh – and I NEED THIS NOW. Love you! xoxo)

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: Much better than Cinder, in my opinion… though I did love still having Cinder and Kai’s perspectives in it. Review coming to you Monday! Wherein I flip out over WOLF. Can somebody wrap him up for me for Christmas? because… I’d love you forever.

Cress by Marissa Meyer: EEP I love Cress! She’s a lot more like me than Cinder or Scarlet and I totally love her and Thorne together. Can’t wait to finish!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: I was standing in the checkout line at Sam’s buying (okay MOM buying) Winter and and the cashier noticed the book and said “Oh I need to get my daughter to read this.” I then proceeded to squeal and tell her how good it was and she said if I liked The Lunar Chronicles I needed to read Red Queen. And, SURPRISE, I already had it at home! I’m excited to see what this is like… I have no idea what to expect but if it’s anything at all like The Lunar Chronicles I’ll be hooked.

Going Rogue by Robin Benway: I read the first in the Also Known As series in September in… a day? (Creds to Trisha for the amazing recommendation) It was AMAZING. Super light and all fluff, but also captivating and mysterious! I’m anxious to read this after The Lunar Chronicles, because I may need to give my heart a break… (it’s currently breaking into a thousand tiny pieces, just sayin’. Thanks a lot guys.) But on another note, it has Jesse and Maggie and they are positively cuteness overload.

The Teashop Girls by Laura Schaefer: Errrmm… I’ve heard/seen this around a little but haven’t picked it up, just because I had so many other books (with lots of recommendations behind them) waiting for me. I just didn’t really want to waste any time on a book I hadn’t heard much about and/or wasn’t sure would be good or not. BUT it does look adorable and again, I may need a lighter read after The Lunar Chronicles. I can absolutely see myself loving this a few years ago, so maybe I’ll enjoy it. 🙂

Hello blog readers! I didn’t have a post scheduled for today, so I’m throwing this together at 9AM before the mother calls me to school in half an hour and so begins my procrastinating Latin. Again. Sigh… SO as a result I googled up some fun book tags and found the book life tag, which I’ve never seen before and it looks supah cool so Imma do it. (Oh and I was tagged by the ever-beautiful-wonderful-lovely-coolest-girl-ever emily @ for the bookish. If you were wondering.)

I’m not 100% sure how the tag works, but you can answer the questions as “my best friend is LIKE this book character” or “my best friend I would like TO BE is this book character” so I’m going to do both.

who would your parents be?

My dad would definitely be Liesel Meminger’s Papa from The Book Thief. He made her a dictionary on the basement wall so she could learn to read. He’s sarcastic and always cracking jokes and I can definitely see my dad as him.

My mom? … hmmmmm. I’d say she either reminds me of America Singer’s mother, Magda, from The Selection series, because she’s always trying to get me to do stuff outside my box, things I would never normally do – but turn out good for me anyway. OR Mrs. Hawthorne from The Mother/Daughter Book Club series, because she and Emma are so close and my mom’s pretty much my best friend. 🙂

who would be your sister?

Ramona Quimby from Beverly Cleary’s books. It’s almost uncanny, you really have no idea.

who would be your brother?

Whale. I don’t have a brother but I do love Klaus Baudelaire from The Series of Unfortunate Events. I can only imagine what a brother in my family would be like, so I’m kind of imagining a younger version of my dad. Besides, I think Klaus would make an adorable little brother.

In the quaint little town of Pumpkin Falls in Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick. Even the name sounds adorable. Pumpkin Falls. Yes please. (Not to mention they have a beautiful little bookstore!)

who would be your best friend?

Charlie from Rachel Coker’s Interrupted. She’s sweet, bubbly, outgoing… flirty, and hilarious! I feel like we’d get along great – she’s just what I need sometimes. 🙂

who would be your significant other?

Are you kidding me?! How about significant others? Because the truth is, I’m in love with waaaayyy too many fictional boys. Here, I’ll name a few. Maxon, Aspen, Jaron, Kai, Ky (the other Ky),  Zander, Mr. Darcy, Darcy (the one from the Mother/Daughter Book Club), Sam, Frank, Gilbert, Jesse… I’ve lost track. I WANT THEM ALL! But if I guess, I suppose, if I had to choose…. Maxon Schreave would be it. He’s so cute and awkward and incredibly dorky, but gosh darn it, America, STEP ASIDE. *swoon* okay I’ll stop ranting now.

WHAT IS HAPPENING. I read a book about cyborgs and creatures from the moon and tech-talk-stuff 100,000 years into the future and I enjoyed it. Going in, I knew Cinder was 100% sci-fi and I was pretty wary about it… but I loved it. There are so many thoughts to process right now, so I’ll try to make this review make sense… (but sorry if it doesn’t, but peoples, it’s YOUR FAULT if I’m going crazy! YOU’RE the ones who got me to read it!) 😉

Where to start… okay. Well, I’ll start it with how the book started. Tech talk. I rather hated it. It confused me and I couldn’t past it a few months ago when I first started Cinder but Brooke told me to push through it, so I did and… the rest of it was great. But the tech-talk I could have done without… even though I know it had a purpose, I did not grasp it at all, so I skimmed and focused on the cute (in my mind, obviously) prince and kept going.

The characters? AWESOME. Lovelovedloved Iko and Peony. Although… well… words can’t really describe my feelings enough right now, so.

It was… a lot to take in. I’m not a sci-fi person, so it was pretty much my first real sci-fi book. I wish I could have gotten to know Prince Kai better; I was a little let-down by the romance, but there are three more books so I’m crossing my fingers for more fangirling moments.

The ending…. oooh, the ending.

I spoiled it for myself. I know, I know, how could I?! Well, I was looking at how many pages the book was, and my eyes… slipped. But, to be honest, I feel like I would have seen it coming anyway. It wasn’t the most shocking ending, and I feel like I did have high expectations for that. But again, there are THREE MORE books to be read so I’m crossing my fingers.

That said. I was hooked. I was totally into the book and attached to the characters and I can’t believe myself! Cinder was a unique character (obvs, she’s a cyborg for crying outloud!) and the overall story line was amazing and original.

Four stars! 🙂

I have a confession to make.

I am obsessed with Myers-Briggs personality types. I could sit on the internet all day long reading about myself if I could. In fact, I HAVE. The personality types are scarily accurate. (You can read all about yourself if you take the test here.) I’ve taken it several times, and sometimes I get an ISFJ, and sometimes I get an INFJ. Most recently I was an INFJ, but I relate to both. Fun fact: INFJ’s make up only 1% of the population, so Emily here is a rare specimen.

Being an IN/SJ, I love relating to people. According to several websites, this can be a bad thing, because I tend to be picky about my friends and thus have a hard time making them. WHICH – helloooo, bookworm over here – IS WHY FICTIONAL CHARACTERS MAKE MUCH BETTER FRIENDS.

In friendship it is as though INFJs are searching for a soul mate, someone who shares every facet of their passions and imagination. (x)
I’m particularly fond of these fictional peoples, because they are me and we will rule the world someday, mark my words. Some of them are ISFJs and some are INFJs but that’s okay because I get to be both, lucky me!

Fun fact: I was doing some research and Little Women is evidently a good classic book for ISFJ’s to read. I’ve been in love with this story since I was eight, and Meg has always been a favorite March sister of mine. She’s the eldest of the four (go figure, right?) and she’s very sensible.

You know Marlin. Marlin, Nemo’s dad?? The worry wart. The one who would do anything for his son. I can see it. Besides, he’s sarcastic and is bad at jokes and that is 100% Emily.

Lizzie and I are one in the same. Kind of judgmental (there’s the J in ISFJ) – we all know how she treated dear Darcy at the beginning. She likes alone time, and again, she is very witty. Quick with the comebacks too. (Jane Austen is said to be an ISFJ, too! I KNEW IT.)

I cannot see the Disney version of Cinderella, no no no. She’s much too go-with-the-flow if you ask me. But take Danielle from Ever After? Or Sam from A Cinderella Story? (Both Cinderella retellings.) I love their sassiness and hard work ethic. Their prince was never their main priority – but in the end they got him anyway right?? 🙂

Goofy. Clumsy… very intelligent. And every time I watch the movie, Mia’s princess transformation really inspires me. On a side note, as Jane Austen (who’s not a fictional character, just a writer of them, but whatever) and Mia Thermopolis, Anne Hathaway has played two ISFJ’s. (Becoming Jane is THE BEST movie ever, just sayin’.)

Hi guys! I love doing “Currently” lists, because who doesn’t like talking about themselves? (And who doesn’t like reading about me?) 😉 Hopefully you don’t mind too much, ’cause Imma post ’em anyway. Ready to see what I’ve been currently up to?

Currently Listening to: Build Me Up Buttercup – The Foundations.

I’ve heard this song before, but recently on Pandora I heard it on the Michael Buble radio (which is THE best radio on Pandora, by the way – alongside the “Easy Listening” one) and it’s been on repeat ever since! It’s so peppy and I love it bunches.

Currently Watching: CHRISTMAS MOVIES. Right now, I’m planning on giving The Christmas Card & Christmas With Holly another watch. Cheesy romantic movies are great, but then add CHRISTMAS to that description and that’s it. I’m a sucker. Also, whilst writing this, Leap Year is playing on TV, which is my new fave. My cousin Sydney and I watched it at a sleepover together and if you ask us about it, we won’t be able to stop smiling thinking about it. It’s just so ADORABLE.

Oh, and I nearly forgot – GILMORE GIRLS! It’s on Netflix if you want to check it out; I’m on episode four (as of November 5th whilst writing this) and love it. Rory Gilmore is essentially me.

Currently Eating: Leftover “Not-Halloween” candy! My family doesn’t do Halloween, but who’s to say we can’t pig out on candy like everyone else? The November 1st sales are da best! Unfortunately I ate all the Reese’s but the Kit Kats are left and I’ll take ANY chocolate I can get my hands on.

Currently Wanting: A Kindle Fire Paperwhite. Man, do those look awesome! I sold my Kindle Fire HD because a) I broke my mom’s computer and I am not exactly rolling in the dough, soooo. Payin’ off my debt, peoples! and b) it’s going on four years old and I was planning on selling it anyway in order to save for a Paperwhite. Buuuut, since Christmas is a mere forty-three days away (eep!) … I’m thinking I’m going to wait to see what I get under the tree…

Currently Loving: My new dog, Beasley! He’s just SO LOVABLE. Just before I wrote this, he pulled the old pillow pet we leave in his crate to the front of the door so that it blocks the entrance, right after our cat Maisy poked her head inside. Is that not positively adorable or what?!

Currently Making: A Thanksgiving book! My mom bought my sister and me these small, blank hardback books to fill with things we’re thankful for during the month of November. Each day we write something we’re thankful for and decorate the page! I’m loving the way my book looks, and it’s so much fun to write in it everyday. Two weeks till Thanksgiving, bloglings!

Currently Writing: My NaNoWriMo novel! That’s right, ladies and (can’t think of any gentlemen who read this except maybe my dad) XD – it’s National Novel Writing Month! My tentative goal is 1,000 words per day… which would then put me around 44,000 words (I’ve got 14000 down from starting it a month or two ago.) So that’s exciting. Expect more updates in the remaining weeks of November!

Currently Counting Down For: CHRISTMAS!! (Poor Thanksgiving just gets skipped right over, but I am looking forward to that too. Did someone say pie?!) The Christmas carols were being blasted in October and now it’s just six weeks away! (Gosh that’s unbelievable.) I also can’t believe 2016 is right around the corner – FTB will be turning two in no time! Okay, okay, maybe I am getting ahead of myself. But I am prepping for Christmas… for my friends and family off and online! Keep an eye out for Christmas giveaways soon. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve…

Fun fact: According to a random online quiz, my “Peanuts” character is Linus.
