sleepovers & my starbucks attire

Hi, everyone! The past week has been pretty busy – and lots of fun! And super, duper COLD! I know, I know – I live in Georgia, for Pete’s sake. I should not be complaining about the cold. I’m just so, so ready for Spring. We got a little dusting of snow on Friday, though, so of course my sister and I got out on our trampoline and threw snow at each other for a little while!

Wednesday was a blast. Mostly because I got out of schoolwork for my sister’s birthday! We went out to eat and shopped around for a little while and gave my sister her presents from my mom, dad, and I. The real fun was Friday night! Since Anna has officially hit double digits, she had her first birthday sleepover. Several of her friends and our cousins came over and we stayed up late and watched a movie and ATE CAKE!!!

An ice cream cake, nonetheless. Yes, it’s true. There was ICE CREAM INSIDE THE CAKE. It’s ice cream and cake, BUT ONE! I was very excited. I’m making myself drool thinking about that yummy cake.

I also took some pictures with my pretty pink Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 (in short, a Polaroid), with some of the girls, who kept telling me it was the coolest camera in the world.

Quick tip – don’t talk when the person takes the picture, okay? (When you see the look on my face! Lol.)

I’m also thinking about Starbucks. The next morning, I went to this 1850’s historical home near where I live to volunteer and give some tours for a few hours. It was my second time there as an oh-fficial “junior docent,” but I got to give my very first tour of the home! My cousin Sydney was at Anna’s sleepover, so in the morning she decided to come and hang out at the historical home to see if becoming a junior docent would be fun, and soon enough she was in the costume and giving tours, as well! It was a blast.

After hanging out there for a few hours, on the way home, I asked my dad if he’d take us to Starbucks (where you’ll find the greatest cups of make-believe in the world), and he said, “I might could swing that.” YES. Sydney and I worked our charm. But he had something up his sleeve. (Like he always does.) We had to go into the Starbucks. As in, inside. No problem, right? Ahahahaha. But it was. We were IN OUR 1850’S COSTUMES. They’re gorgeous, truly. I love twirling around in my 6 layers of pantelettes and drawers and bloomers and skirts and slips and all that, but if we walked into this 21st century Starbucks, we would look like… well, you get the picture.

I did need that Starbucks, so it was worth it. One table pointed at Sydney and me, but we just smiled and ordered our drinks (BY THE WAY, GET THE STRAWBERRIES & CREAM FRAPAPPUCCINO), and sat down for a minute or two… probably looking Amish or something!

There we are, lovely as always. Never a dull moment.

Signing off with Maisy and my awesome new book (The Gossip File by Anna Staniszewski – it’s so funny! And well worth the fact that I now have -$2),

  1. Sounds like you had a fun weekend!! the ice cream cake looks incredibly yummy! I ate one when my sister turned 4, then also when she turned 3, when she turned 3 we got it in the shape of a heart 🙂 <3 I so wish I had a Polaroid!! Looks like you all had fun!!
omg, if you like starbucks, you HAVE to go to Seattle, (that's where starbucks first started!) when I went there, there was literally a startbucks on every block!! it was crazy, but oh my goodness, if you like coffee, THE #1 place to go to is Portland Oregon. THAT place has THE BEST coffee in the world. period. (there's so many plus sides by living near Portland,!) like you can be in the modern city, but you can still turn around and find yourself in the middle of a rose garden! lots of yummy food trucks and Heather Vogel Frederick lives in Portland too!!
OK sorry, I'm getting off subject!! Thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures Emily!!
(P.S my favorite starbucks drink is the chocolatey frappe!! have you ever gotten anything from the secret menue??)

    1. Isn’t the ice cream cake soooo yummy?? Aww, that’s so sweet. I’ve never had a cake in a heart, but I have had a pizza in a heart. 😉
I just got my Polaroid from Christmas! The only downer is the film is really expensive.
OMG, I bet so!! I would love to visit those places.
I know exactly what you mean. I love where I live. it’s a really suburban area – there’s cities and downtown Atlanta and stores and Starbucks(es) everywhere, but then you can also find yourself out in the “country” even though it’s 10 minutes from the “city” and it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere! 😉
That’s totally okay. I LOVE long comments.
Yes, the secret menu is awesome! I’ve tried the cotton candy and apple pie frappe. I HATED the apple pie frappe. It was waaaaaay too sweet. I only took a few sips. Have you? What is your favorite thing on it?

  2. It sounds like you had such a lovely week, Emily. Happy birthday to your sister! I love ice cream cake so much. It’s the perfect combination! And Polaroids seriously are the coolest cameras in the world. Even if they might not take very good quality photos, they print right then and there. Hehe. I love your dresses.

    1. I will! Ice cream cake really is the BEST combination ever. I wish I could learn how to make one, but before I put the ice cream in I would probably melt it!
I knooow. But did you know you can get this very small, portable “Polaroid” printer where it prints your photo just like a polaroid picture, but all you have to do is attach it to your phone to print?! I would love to have one of those, but it’s pretty pricey. (As you can imagine!)
      Thanks. I do, too! 😉

  3. I know exactly what you mean about the snow. I live in Virginia, so getting snow is a big event. Happy birthday to your sister Anna! I love everything about Starbucks, and I really like those dresses! Oh, I love Polaroid cameras! I wanted one for Christmas, but my parents said I would get for my birthday. I’m counting the days till my birthday, May 28th! I had an ice cream cake on my 8th birthday. We have the biggest deck in our neighborhood, so it’s a tradition that I cut my cake on the deck. I found this DIY that I’m pretty sure you would like. It’s Starbucks lip balm! Anyways, I do digress, and I also wanted to say that you should read the Daughters series by Joanna Philbin. One of the main characters is a writer! Sorry this is a long comment.

    1. Snow is really fun! I’m just ready for warm weather!
Me, too!! I’m not looking forward to wearing the dresses in the summertime, though, haha.
Aww, that’s so fun! I can’t wait till you get one. They’re really cool.
I think I’ll have an ice cream cake at my next birthday. 😉
NO WAY! Is it on Pinterest or something?
The Daughters series… I’ll make a mental note to check it out. 😉
No, it’s totally okay. I love long comments!!!

  4. Yay. A post! What mobie did you watch? I LOVE ice cream cake. But then ahain I love any kind of cake. Our town just got a starbucks. I’m not alowwed to drink coffee though( their ice tea is great). Does the strawberry and cream frapappucino contain coffee? If not what does it taste like? What is your favorite starbucks drink that is not coffee? What is the book about?

    1. Oh and what do you recommend getting at starbucks that does not contain coffee?
Oh and I found this cool contest through. Bookish serendipity. You can look at it at bookscavenger.com .

      1. We watched the movie “Bears.” It’s really like a documentary but it was so sweet and we all oohed and ahhed over the baby bears. 🙂
Nope, the strawberry and cream frappe doesn’t contain coffee. None of their frappaccinos (I think I’m spelling that wrong), and you can get tea there (try the chai tea, but not the chai tea latte – it has coffee. Say no ‘espresso’ if you’re allowed to. it’s so good!) Also in the summer you can get “refreshers,” which are like lemonade and iced tea, but there are lots of flavors to try. Not to mention their pastries! It tastes like a strawberries and cream milkshake. That’s all I can think to describe it. I normally get the chai tea, in the winter, a peppermint mocha latte, and in the fall, a pumpkin spice latte. You can also get hot chocolate, and any of their lattes, but ask for no espresso, or coffee. There’s a lot that doesn’t have coffee. Neat! I’ll look at that website. Thanks, Brooke! 🙂

        1. Cool! I will definetly try one next time I go!thanks for the information. I don’t know much about starbucks. I don’t really like chia tea or else I would get one of those.
Your welcome! If you enter I hope you win! I entered. It looked like I was the only one from new mexico so far. If its really good I would probably struggle giving it away. Lol.

        2. I love the movie Bears! Ok, so in Virginia, near Richmond, there are census-designated places, and my “town” or the place I love is one of them. We have a really cool main street that is a BIG tourist attraction. In the main street, we have the movie theater, a bookstore, a retro diner, and so much more! Then behind it, we have a big mall with gazebos, benches, and fountains. That place is truly the best for writing. But you totally get the country vibe, and since I was born in Virginia, I already have a somewhat country accent. Ok, it isn’t that heavy, which I like. So, we also have a big library, and a big park were I love to read in the summertime. Near my house we have a creek, and tons of forests. But, seriously, I love Virginia. You should visit.
