ungifted by gordon korman

I really like different perspectives. Last week, I read a book about a genius, “gifted” girl named Willow and this week I read a book about a totally “ungifted” boy named Donnavon. (Although this week is really two weeks ago because I’m writing this two weeks before you’re reading this. It’s all very confusing.) This book was hilarious! I loved the plot, the different perspectives, and the cute robot cover. It was hook, line, and sinker, for me.

I think what I really liked about this book was the different perspectives. I’m a big fan of switching perspectives, period, but especially in Ungifted, because I got to see how the “gifted” kids and the “ungifted” Donnavon were really good for each other. Because even though Donnavon wasn’t gifted in academics, he was gifted in so many other things. When he accidentally ended up at a school for gifted children, he may have flunked most of his classes, but he brought his classmates together and everyone realized he was good for the school.

Plus, this was one of those books that had me laughing out loud. Donnavon was sarcastic and cynical, and I loved that he always ended up on top, “floating” along like his ancestor who survived the Titanic! 😉 I think a lot of kids would really enjoy this book, too. It made me realize that we’re all good for each other, even if the cut-ups are annoying and the know-it-all’s are snotty.

The ending couldn’t have ended better. The whole book had me smiling, but still genuinely excited to see how things would turn out. I knew that things would turn out great, because the characters were optimistic and the story itself was light and fun. I loved this book. =)

5 stars for Ungifted, and two thumbs up!

    1. Me, too! I really like reading funny books in between a heavy book, maybe like a historical fiction, or a sad book.
I liked how different it was! There are a lot of books about genius kids, and those are nice, too, but this one was definitely different that anything about kids I’ve read before.
I can’t wait until you read it. I hope to see a review for it. 🙂

  1. This book looks good. I’ll probably get it from the library today. I’ve finally finished a lot of my books I have at home so I am granting myslef permission to get a few books from the library.

    1. Haha! I have to limit myself, too. I have so many books on my Kindle I got on sale (I keep my eye on ebooks for when they go on $1 or $2 sales. I don’t really like to pay full price for a book on ebooks), and so I’m making myself read them first. 🙂 What books have you read recently?

      1. I’m reading Ungifted right now. It is pretty good. I got four books from the library yesterday. Since you’ve been gone, stargirl, Shutout, and Ungifted. I’m also reading The library Card by Jerry Spinelli and one other book. I’m on a happy book high. Have you read any good books lately?

        1. I hope you like it. 🙂
Stargirl is really good. I haven’t read Since You’ve Been Gone, but I love Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. (It definitely has some romance in it, but I like the main plot, too.) I haven’t been too sure about Since You’ve Been Gone. Let me know how it is.
You were a little bit right about How My Private, Personal Journal Became a Best Seller. So far it’s called this mean leader of a clique at school the ‘b’ word a few times. I’m not so sure… and I started Eggs by Jerry Spinelli yesterday, but I’m not really into it yet.
I just got Peter and the Starcatchers on audio today. I got it on this app my mom has called audible. She had credits on the app so I got it for free. I love it so far. (I’m on chapter four.) I listened to it with head phones while I did some chores. 😉
I haven’t finished very many books in the past few days. (I finished Ida B by Katherine Hannigan on the 20th.)
My mom said she could probably take me to the library sometime this week, though. We have some fees due, so she might get me my own card, so I can put books on hold on the website. (It won’t let you if you have overdue books.) And I can check some out on my Kindle.

          1. I know you like Stargirl that’s why I got it. I haven’t been to sure about it either but I thought I might as well give it a try. I know Daisy likes it and she doesn’t like any inapropriate content so that’s another reason why I gave it a try. I’ve never read any of Morgan Matsons books.
That’s to bad. At least you didn’t buy it full price. I hate when books use bad words or reference bad things( like Autumn Falls by Bella Thorne. The plot was great but some of the content was bad).
Ooh. I have Audible but I only have a few books on it. I really like it. I should buy more audible books. There are a few books in the series and I liked them all.
            That’s cool.
I finished Ungifted a bit ago. It was pretty good. I liked how they skyped blank so he could watch blank. That was so fuuny.

    1. It really is!
Well, Donnavon (the MC), ends up joining the robotics team at the genius school he accidentally ended up at. 😉 It’s really cute!
