the book lover’s questionaire

Hi, guys! First of all, I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday. I did absolutely nothing and procrastinated everything. 😉

Any who, Samantha from Bookish Serendipity tagged me in the Book Lover’s Questionaire tag! I love doing these types of things, so here goes!

1) Do you have a specific place for reading?

Honestly, no. It’s usually on my bed, but I really like reading next to a window. It just depends. I prefer reading in silence, so if there’s a spot in my house that’s quiet with no one around, I like sitting next to a window to read. But sometimes at night, while my mom and dad are watching Jeopardy or the news, I like to sit on the couch next to them and read.

2) Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Oh, gosh, for the longest time I dog-eared. (I know, I know!! So sue me.) I remember once a few years back, when I had to have four teeth removed, every time I went in for my check-up or whatever, I’d bring my book in with me and the lady would see me dog-earing pages and every time she gave me a sticky note! 😉 It wasn’t long before I started my book mark collection. I keep a little tin full of them on my nightstand! I almost never dog-ear anymore, haha. Even when I go on trips or somewhere, I have several book marks, but I’ll grab anything. Receipts, sticky notes, napkins. I try to have something other than dog-eared.

3) Can you stop anywhere in a book or does you have to finish the chapter?

can stop anywhere, but it seriously bugs me sooo bad. I have to stop at least at a line break or something! At night, when my dad comes in to turn off the lights and kiss me goodnight, if I’m reading a book, I have to finish the paragraph I’m reading or until the next line break!

4) Music or TV while reading?

Instrumental music – YES. I turn on suspenseful classical/instrumental music when I’m reading an intense book, but no instrumental music to a song I know the words for, otherwise, I still get the words in my head. As for TV, it depends what show’s on. Shows like “Jeopardy” or “Downtown Abbey,” yes. They’re soft and low, and I can easily block them out. But really intense shows/movies, or ones with lots of background music, I really don’t like to.

5) Do you eat or drink while reading?

As C.S. Lewis once said, “Reading and eating are two pleasures that combine admirably.” Foods and books are both connected to memories for me. (If that makes any sense at all… lol!) When I read the Selection series by Keira Cass last summer, I ate about 2 dozen lime Popsicles!

6) One book at a time or several?

Ohhhh…. my goodness, that’s a loaded question! I really, truly, really try hard not to read more than one book at a time… but… you know me. Hehehe. (Especially when I’ve recently bought more than 1 book at a time! Or borrow them from the library. How do I CHOOSE??!)

Don't rely on that "Now Reading" thing on the sidebar. Sometimes I forget to update it, and sometimes I have too many books I'm reading!

7) Reading at home or elsewhere?

I read all over the place! I bring books to restaurants, in the car, to my friend’s sleepover, anywhere! I try not to read somewhere in a public place or at a party or something, because I don’t want to seem rude. (Plus I get interrupted… what can I say? It’s a life beyond words. Hahaha!) It just depends on how much background noise there is, and if it will seem rude or not. As far I’m concerned, it’s not as bad as your phone though. 🙂

8) Read out loud or silently?

This is a very gray area for me.

9) Do you read ahead or skip pages?

I want to say no. But I… I. Well, OCCASIONALLY I look at the very last page, and glance at a word… or two. But most of the time… no?

10) Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Uh… keep it like new. (Thus why I’m reluctant to lend books. That, and not getting them back.) But back in the day, I was a HORRIBLE spine-bender. It’s a habit I’m proud to say I’ve given up.

Horrible, I know.
Horrible, I know.

11) Do you write in your books?

Only in devotionals or like American Girl advice books or something. But anything else – NO WAY, JOSE!

  1. How do you read in bed? It’s so uncomfortable and whenever I read in bed I end up tossing and turning because I can’t hold the book properly. Hehe. I get the reference in number 7. *chuckles gleefully because Ana doesn’t usually get references in post because people don’t read the books she loves* I liked Chasing Jupiter even better, though. I need to reread that book NOW.

    1. I just lean against the pillows, I guess. Lol! Sometimes if I’m cold I get under the covers. And it’s strange, but I also lay on my side and read. 😛
Lol, I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. I’m not one for reading something just because it’s popular. Really? I liked Interrupted the best. 🙂 Haha, me too!!!

  2. I have never written in a book. I might start writing in the front when I give a book to a friend. I dont know. I never liked to dog ear. If I lent a book to someone I always gave them I bunch of rules ;p ( like no dog earing, do not leave the book sitting open, be very careful with it, and try not to get food, blood, ect. On it). I usually read either on the floor or on my bed. When I try to read books in public places or at an event I am constantly getting Inturrupted( I read it! I can’t believe she wrote it at 14! It was SO good). Occasionally read ahead but I try not to.
I got three books yesterday. Inturrupted, Chasing Jupiter, and Breakaway. I read Inturrupted and Breakaway but not Chasing Jupiter yet. Breakaway was good( I don’t know if you would like it. Its soccer themed. If you like sports or soccer you might like it). I love Inturrupted( I specifficly liked page 243. I love how she throws her shoes ;p ).
    How was babysitting?

    1. I also write my name and date in it, too, but that’s it. Lol, same here. Right now my cousin has the first MDBC book I lent to her, but I’m going to ask for the whole set when the new one comes out because I bent the spines at the time. Me too! I also lean against my bed on the floor.
You did?! I can’t believe she did, either. It’s so amazing.
It was awesome! Most of the night, we watched TV while the little girl and their dog sat in my lap. It was really sweet. Plus, I didn’t have to put anyone to bed and they had already eaten dinner so it was an easy job.

      1. The only really bent spines of my books is my harry potter series and my MDBC series( its not to bad but my MDBC corners are wearing down). I reread the MDBC so much that it is starting to get worn down! I should start being more careful with them. I sit on the floor and lean against my bed to! I have one of the cushy back rest things that I usually put there so I don’t hurt my back on my bed.
Cool! I love when I get an easy job like that. Aww. It sounds sweet! I’m not a big dog person but little girls are sweet( I should know. I use to be one ;p).

        1. Yeah, sometimes even though I don’t bend spines purposefully, the books can get bent. I really hate that.
Ooh, I know what you’re talking about! I need one of those.
I’m not a dog person, either, but this dog has won me over!
Yes, they are. Especially when they’re three feet tall and have two missing front teeth. 🙂

  3. *cringes*
    I. Can. Not. Break. The. Spines. Of. Books.
Sometimes I think I’m a little too careful with my books. I crack them open two inches in worry tat if I open it any further I’ll bend all the pages. :p Since I’m so particular about my books, it is really hard to lend them out. I do I on occasion, but I have to work on giving out my precious’. xP

  4. Oh I totally empathise with this (also procrastination. I have a medium amount of homework that is *pining* for my attention) Anyway… I have a terrible habit of reading more than one book at once. I do that most of the time. As for bookmarks.. I get heaps of bookmarks as presents, because people are like ‘oh you like books so I’ll give you a book mark’. Sadly, pretty much without fail I lose each bookmark within 2 or 3 days of receiving it. SO I use scraps of paper. Except in my bible, which doesn’t move and a bookmark is useful there.(Actually it has a built in bookmark ribbon but I gotta use all these bookmarks for something). I HATE spine breaking! but hypocritically I usually leave my books open on the table if I’m only leaving it for a short amount of time. I really like Wendy Mass! My favourites are A Mango Shaped Space followed by The Candymakers. Great post, emily <3

    1. Oh, great! I can’t wait to read yours!
Biographies? I can’t say I do… Well, Beverly Cleary’s biography is really good. And I read 1 or 2 on Princess Diana a few years ago, but that’s about it. 🙂

    2. A Year of Goodbyes by Debbie Levy. It’s told lyrically (it looks like poems) but it isn’t and its pretty good and very historical too. Its about one girl, Jutt, during WW2 who is Jewish
