stacking the shelves #29

Hi everyone! I’m sorry I missed my post yesterday; it’s been a busy week and I had a friend over yesterday. (Pizza, ice cream, and a marathon of Love Comes Softly movies, anyone?) But this week has been a fantastic week book-wise, and I’m excited to show you the ones I got! (A small stack, but an awesome stack nonetheless.)

From the bottom we have… *drum roll please*

JACKABY by Wiliam Ritter: Okay, I’m really not sure about this one. I thought it was a regular historical fiction, and then I realized it has something to with supernatural things and a detective. (?) It definitely looks interesting, and the cover is absolutely amazing, buuuut. I don’t know what to think of the synopsis. Is there anyone who has read it who can tell me a little more about it?

THE WINNER’S CURSE by Marie Rutkoski: Remember last week when I accidentally got the second book in the Winner’s trilogy, instead of the first? I GOT THE FIRST ONE! Yaaaaay. I’m excited to see what this is all about. The dresses on the cover look very enticing. PLUS: THESE PAGEEEEES. What do you call these?? I don’t even know, but I’d like to see books have them a lot more. I haven’t even seen a lot of people talk about them, but they’re SO BEAUTIFUL. anyway. did I mention I liked the pages?

ALL FALL DOWN by Ally Carter: AHHHH ALLY CARTER. I’ve heard so much about her and this series and I am thrilled to have this. I’ve been wanting to read it for almost a YEAR now I think.

SWIPE by Evan Angler: you guys keep talking & talking & talking & talking about this book and I WANT TO KNOW WHYYYY. (ok maybe that’s an exaggeration but my point is that I’ve heard it’s awesome and I don’t want to be left out of the awesomeness.)

Also — I wanted to talk about my 100-book challenge for 2016! How many books are you trying to read this year?? And how many have you read so far? I’ve read 4, so I’m on track but I would like to have read more… this past week I read Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella (which was amazing by the way!) and Austenland by Shannon Hale.

what books did you read this week? which books did you get this week? tell me below!

  1. Yay for books! I loved this post, Emily–I also love those kinds of pages too–like an ancient leafy texture? I don’t know, but they remind me of the Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillio. And I love Ally Carter! She writes some pretty awesome books.
I’ve been reading more books than ever lately, and I finished the Hired Girl in just 4 days! I absolutely loved it, honestly. True, Joan was extremely naive, and I cringed when she tried to give the love poem to that girl, and when she was falling in love. I suppose it makes sense and teaches us all a lesson in the end, when she learns about David and the truth, and oh I was about to cry at that part, it was so surreal. I can see this being a classic, almost like Little Women, for the 21st Century. Just give it a few decades, this is an awesome book xD I especially loved the heroines in the novels connections to her own experiences, and the Catholic faith bits–it truly showed me how to strengthen my love and relationship with God, but to respect other people’s view points and religions as well 🙂
    Have fun reading!!

    1. When should we NOT ‘yay’ for books?? haha. 😉
Ooh, that’s a good description. I’ve only heard half of The Tale of Despereaux on audio and never finished… mental note to read that! It was adorable. I think I’ve watched the movie though.
That’s what I’ve heard! She must be an amazing author. I can’t wait to try her out.
Wow! Yay for quick-finishing! The Hired Girl is a good-length novel, too. However it was so good I finished it quickly too. You’re spot-on there. I DEFINITELY see it being a classic as such. *wipes tears* I could go on! It was amazing.
      Happy reading, Grace!

  2. I’m so excited for you to read swipe!! For me, its kind of like the lunar chronicles where the first book was good but it wasn’t my favorite….
I’m only doing a fifty book goal this year. If I make that goal then great! If I make it higher then great!!

Oh! Also! Who won the giveaway?? 😀

      1. I agree, Izel. Usually the first in a series is always my least favorite.
        I love that attitude!
Oh, I still need to announce that!!
NOOO I HAVEN’T. AHH I NEED TO SO BAD.

  3. Eeeeekkkk!!! ALL FALL DOWN!!!!! You will love it (hopefully). And, if you love it, make sure to read the Heist Society and the Conspiracy of Us. They are soo goood!!!!!!!!
Oh, so I just finished Conspiracy of Us, and now I’m going to be reading See How They Run, the book after All Fall Down. I can’t wait to see what you think of Swipe. I really want to read it, but I’m also a little iffy on it.

    1. Okay, so The Conspiracy of Us is on hold at the library! So excited for that one. It’s a series right?? And I can’t wait to read All Fall Down. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for Heist Society!
Well hopefully I like it and tell you my thoughts. 🙂

  4. Awesome book haul! All Fall Down is so great. You can’t help but like it. And the ending is…… wow. Though the main character can be annoying at times.
And you’ll adore Swipe. Its just so great. You go into Swipe not expecting much but by the 2nd or so chapter you can’t put the book down.
I can’t wait to see if you like a winners curse. If you do I will definatly read it.
I hope we both like Jackaby :).

    1. So basically like The Heir, then? 😉 Lol. I can’t wait to read it.
ooh 2nd chapter!! I’ve been waiting to get the 2nd book so that if it ends on a cliffhanger (like you said…) 😉 I can grab the next one.
Me too! I’m not sure when I’ll read it though. A lot of books are ahead of it.

  5. Ooh, All Fall Down was super good. I enjoyed Winner’s Curse too. I hope you enjoy them! I haven’t read Jackaby but it sounds super interesting.
