my bookshelf tour!

I promised this last week, but unfortunately didn’t get to it… so finally, I present to you… my bookshelf!

emily

There it is, in all its glory! It’s probably my favorite part of my room. (Right next to my bed. Quite literally, in fact. Ha!) On the very top of my bookshelf, I’ve got my four American Girl dolls, who sit up there watching me blog, write, read, and sleep 24/7. They live the life up there. But I couldn’t get them in the picture, so just imagine them. 😉

On the first shelf way up there, I keep all my tall books that won’t sit anywhere else, binders, journals, and all my bibles and devotionals. And also magazines, how-to books, my writing tips books (is that what they’re called? I don’t know, I can’t think of a better term for them), and just some random books.

The second shelf down is my favorites shelf! These are the books I’ve read again and again and again, and most of them have tear stains and dog-eared pages! You can see a list of all my favorites on this post here. All of the books on my favorites shelf are on the list. I have quite a few books by Ann M. Martin, Heather Vogel Frederick, and Rachel Coker.

On the third shelf down (the top shelf in the picture right above), I have all of my historical fiction and classics. I have some historical fiction books on the shelf beneath it, and on my favorites shelf, as well, but because they’re either a) one of my favorites or b) a love story/Christian fiction historical and they fit into another category. A couple I really love are Countdown by Deborah Wiles, The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez, and The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine. Of course, books like Anne of Green Gables and Little Women and Pride & Prejudice are givens on my classics shelf. If you notice in the picture, on the far left of the top shelf, I’ve got quite a few books that spines look the same! That’s because I’m trying to collect all of my classics in the Barnes & Noble classics! 🙂

On the fourth shelf down (the second shelf in the picture above), are my contemporary Middle Grade books and my Christian/Historical/Romance Fiction – those being books like Melanie Dickerson’s medieval times/fairy-tale type books, Love on a Dime by Cara Lynn James, and A Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner. Then on the left are my contemporary MG’s. You may recognize a couple of them – Destiny Rewritten, The Gossip File, Stargirl, and a book review I keep meaning to write – The Other Half of my Heart by Sundee T. Frazier. =)

The last two shelves are really just random miscellaneous that either won’t fit on the other shelves or just didn’t have a place on the shelf for it. To the left of the basket are books I haven’t read or I need to take into a used bookstore (in exchange for different books!) because I started them and they weren’t my cup of tea. I also have some notebooks that I use for writing inspiration or I’ve filled in the past few years, and then a couple of devotionals I couldn’t fit on the top shelf. To the right of the top shelf in the picture above, I have some Babysitter’s Club books (I went through an obsession with those a couple summers back!), and then on the bottom my grand collection of American Girl books and the Mandie series and Holly’s Heart books. Oh, and if you’re wondering, in the basket is some electronic stuff – headphones, chargers, etc. 😉

So that’s my bookshelf! A few of my books are in my sister’s bedroom on her bookshelf, but those are all of my books! How do you organize your books? Do you have any of the same books as me? 🙂

  1. That’s quite a collection! I dont have that many books yet, they all fit on one long shelf in my closet, I organize my books by series. MDBC, Emily Windsnap books, Betsy Tacey, Dork Diaries, nd The secret laguange of girls. And all my other books that either i dont have all of them in the series or dont come in a collection, like models dont eat chocolate cookies, since you’ve been gone and pride and prejudece.

i noticed you dont have the first or 3rd book in the MDBC series, have you read those yet?

    1. I’ve always had a lot of books, since I was little. When I was a baby I had a basket full of books in my room and my mom has pictures of me sitting inside the basket reading. I’d do that now, but I don’t have a basket I can sit in. Haha! 😀
Is Since You’ve Been Gone good? I read Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson and loved it, but I’m not sure about Since You’ve Been Gone. If you’ve read Second Chance Summer, is it similar to it, as far as the story is written?
Actually, I have the first book, but I lent it to my cousin. (She loves it so far!) The third book is on my Kindle. I want a new boxed set of the series, but I think I’ll wait until the new one comes out, even if it’s a year away. And Pies & Prejudice is SIGNED!! My friend found it in a used book store for only $2 and gave it to me. I’m thinking about doing a post for all my autographed books. 🙂

      1. I haven’t read Second Chance Summer, so I can’t be sure if it’s written similar to it or not. -But Since You’ve been gone is an amazing book about friendship. BUT there is boy drama. I loved it from start to finish, I went through it in a day. The only parts I can warn you about is, very very VERY mild swearing, nothing to bad and then there’s a part on her list were is says to “Kiss a Stranger” I didn’t get why the author wrote it that way I don’t understand how come the kiss could have been short and snappy. But it’s fine I guess, Nothing was detailed or graphic so I recommend it.
Sorry for the long comment but I thought you should know before you buy it. 🙂

  2. Glad to know someone else has a bookshelf as big as mine! 😉

It’s Spring Break where I live, and I’m planning to clean out/reorganize (a good excuse to read all day, haha) my bookshelf. I will probably do a bookshelf tour on my blog, too! 🙂

    1. I actually reorganized my bookshelf a week or two ago!
I can’t wait to see your bookshelf tour! I’ve actually never seen a bookshelf as big as mine, except in my parents’ room, and on other people’s blogs. 🙂

  3. Argh!just lost my whole comment and it was pretty long.
I wish I had a bookshelf that big. I have a bookshelf about half that size, 3 shelves on the wall, and four shelves between my desk legs. The bookshelf has most of my favorite books on them and the other shelves are just kind of random. I like to keep books next to each other that are by the same author or part of a series. I want to try to organize my books a little better. My book colection is growing. I buy a lot of books with babysitting money. I’m trying to limit myself though.
The Princess Academy is pretty good. Its kind of like a MG version of the Selection with a few diferences. You’d probably like them.
You should definately keep an eye out for a book Scavenger copy to come near you. Its So good so far. I’m going to be sad to part with it. If I really like it I’ll have to buy it in june. I’ve heard of geo chaching. I’ve never done it though.
I use to feel self consious buying MG books( because I’m quite an advanced reader) but I’m getting over it. Sometimes I still feel weird but nit as often. I read HP at nine( that’s what made me really love reading. I liked it before but this really sparked the bonfire) and the Inheritance Cycle and Hunger Games at ten. I still read YA but I am going back to MG too.
From the Mixed up files is amazing. The book lists are so cool and the blog posts.are great too. They actuallt named their blog after a MG book.
I would probably like being a guide but I would probably complain about the outfit. I like history. Its my second favorite class. First is tied with lucnch and English.

    1. I used to use an expedite as my bookshelf, so it was a lot smaller. I just reorganized my bookshelf a week or two ago. After a while, once I add so many books or move some around, it gets a little out of hand. I try to limit myself, too. Mostly I use my chore money for either things for my room, clothes or accessories, and of course books. (Mostly books!)
I think I’ll have to check them out. I can’t decide which to read first! Everyone who comments on my blog recommends books, but then I see cheap books at sales and whatnot, and then think “Oh, what about that book so-in-so said…” and I feel SO overwhelmed! And so excited about all of the books I have to read! 😀
I’ve never felt self-conscious about reading MG books because of my age or even if I do read at an advanced level. I love reading them, especially historical fiction. In fact, I feel more self-conscious reading YA than anything, because a lot of it is inappropriate. And most of the time they’re both written on the same level, anyway, just deeper content or the books are longer.
I realized it was named after a book! I’ve heard of that book a lot, too.
I love it. It’s right up my alley!! 😉 Haha! Lunch and English! I like English, History, and Math. And also Geography. I really enjoy school. I’m learning Latin for my home-school group, and it’s hard! But I *KIND* of like it… just don’t tell my mom! 😀

    1. Ha! Well, no always. I actually just reorganized it last week… 😉
My family has tons of books, everywhere. We have a bookshelf in the living, one in my sister’s room, my room, my parents’ room, and one in the kitchen for our home-school books. We have hundreds of dollars in books! 🙂
