meet my best friend

I’ve known my best friend since I was five months old. Yep. That’s thirteen years ago today – which makes today a very special day. Not only is today the day I met my best friend, it’s also her birthday! And it’s a pretty big one, too. Today, Sydney Rose, YOU’RE A TEENAGER! (By the way, are you reading this right now? You better be. You told me you subscribed.)

We’ve been through everything – and I mean literally, everything, together. We conquered potty-training. And then the meanest girl in preschool. (Remember her? You know who I’m talking about.) We’ve lived ten minutes down the road from each other our whole entire lives – that’s pretty special. Not very many best friends get to do that. We’re like sisters. (And we fight like sisters.) You could even say we’re like family…

What’s that? We are family?! That makes SO much more sense now. You know, the best thing about us being family is – YES! OMG, see? You knew what I was going to say! You even finish my sentences! All I have to do is give you a call and be like “So-in-so.” and you’re like “Ugh.” Or “Look behind you.” and you say “Oh. Sweet. Lord.”

You’re always so determined. When you put your mind to something, you really put your mind to it. When I ask for your advice, you tell me, straight-out. Sometimes I think we’re so different it’s crazy. But most of the time, I realize the things we do have in common – things like family and interests and and secrets and inside jokes – well, nothing can replace that. 13 years of sleepovers and giggles and birthday parties and school and vacations. Wow!

I know that God gave me you for the ups and downs. (hehehe. See what I did?) So we would both bring out the best in each other. So we would hold each other’s hands and pat each other on the shoulders and comfort each other. So one of us could say “Girl, get real and quit being ridiculous!” For all those years I would be without a BCF if it weren’t for you. (Best Cousins Forever.)

Happy birthday to my best friend!!!! (And happy national frozen yogurt day, too!)

xx, Emily

  1. BCF. I should use that. That’s luke me and my best friend. Except we don’t live near each other. The pictures of when you were younger are so cute. Happy Birthday Sydney! My birthday is in about two months.
I love this post. Its so sweet and funny( even though I don’t know who Sydney is).

    1. Yep, we always sign our names in birthday cards or yearbooks ‘Love, Emily/Sydney (BCF).” 🙂 I think so, too. Lol. It is? Happy early birthday!

  2. Aw, this is so sweet, Emily. It’s so awesome that your cousin is also your best friend. I have quite a few cousins, but they are all way older than me or way younger than me, and none of them live close by, so I don’t see them very often. Anyways, happy birthday, Sydney!

    1. Aww, that stinks. I have lots of cousins on my dad’s side of the family, but we live a little ways apart and they’re all older or younger than me, too. I’m always shy when I see them at Christmas. 🙂 But Sydney, her sister, and brother, and I are super close.

  3. Aww that’s so sweet!! I know what you mean by BCF, that’s me and my cousin Mia, we talk all the time but we haven’t see each other for 2 years! Sometimes we’ll talk over Skype or something but not often we try to call each other every few weeks though.
But my BFF and I talk through email and sometimes the phone. Thats how we stay BFF’s ever since i moved away.
She and I met through music lessons in 2nd grade, and we’ve been joined at the hip since. And I was so lucky to have my best friend live 4 houses down from me. I remember so many summers, coming from her house eating sandwiches, to my house to run through the sprinklers then to the neighbors house to jump on the trampoline.
God made us friends because our parents wouldn’t be able to handle us as sisters 😉
Sorry for this incredibly long comment! What are some of the best memories with you best friend?

    1. Really? That’s so cool that you guys keep in touch! Your friendships sound really special. Aha, I’ve seen that quote on Pinterest! I love it! No, really, long comments make my day! I love reading what you have to say.

Oh, where could I begin with memories with my BCF? I remember pretend weddings, and fighting over who should be the groom. I remember going to the park and feeding the ducks and fall festivals and picking out pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. I remember first days of school and sleepovers, and going to theme parks and video chatting all the time. (The last two are memories from in the past few weeks!) 😉
