florida trip recap & mini stacking the shelves #23

Hi guys! Sorry I was MIA on you Friday and Saturday. We just got back from our AWESOME beach trip last night, and… my cat is lost. Yep. Maisy’s a stinker. Our other cat, Mittens, is an inside/outside cat (he was a rescue when we got him, and we couldn’t keep him inside, so he goes outside and comes inside. But he always comes home!) This drives Maisy nutty, however, because she thinks she can go outside too. My grandfather was at our house last Sunday and most likely Maisy got out unnoticed when he had the door open. We’re pretty worried… dad’s going to make some flyers and we talked to some of our neighbors. So if you could pray that we find her soon, that would be great. 🙂

In other news… I figured I would go ahead and do a beach trip recap, along with a picture of all the books I’ve gotten (!!!!) and everything, ’cause you don’t want to hear about my missing cat the whole time, right?! 😉

Florida was a TON OF FUN. I absolutely love the area we stayed in; we’ve been several times before and I can’t wait to go back! Our condo was right on the beach, so we had this gorgeous view. I loved watching the sun rise and set. It was beyond beautiful.

My cousins, Sydney and Olivia tagged along with us this week, and it was so much fun having them with! Sydney’s just five months younger than me and Olivia and Anna are exactly two weeks apart! You could say we’re built-in best friends! 😀 So one night we had a mini photo shoot on the beach since we all had these adorable dresses that were dying to be worn. Jump shoots are the best!

Remember how I kept talking about my new Hannah Everly skirt?! You may have noticed I’ve recently changed all of my profile pictures (or not, but now you know!) because I absolutely adore the pictures of me in my new skirt. 🙂 Hannah’s skirt is so amazing; the fabric is super nice and it fits me so well. It’s worth every penny!

emily

There’s also this one that I love, too! I can’t decide which one I want as my profile picture, haha!!

emily

The donuts were the best part though, just sayin’.

emily

Also… we all came home with TURTLES! Meet Squirt. We found these little guys in one of the shops nearby. Everyone in my family knows I’ve been wanting a turtle FOREVER! They’re not freaky like my sister’s crabs (LOL… they look like spiders!) and you can still hold them, unlike fish. Of course I had to name her after my favorite Disney character. You know, Squirt? From Finding Nemo??

emily

DON’T WORRY. That weird stuff on my hand is just water, from her tank. 😀

And you didn’t think I forgot about books, did you??!

emily

The week wasn’t good BOOK-WISE. Let me explain. In the beginning of the week, I bought When Audrey Met Alice from one of the bookstores. I decided to read that one first because I thought it would be a funny, light beach read. Few chapters in. Content was icky. No thanks. Theeeen I opted for Rebel Belle, which I had borrowed from the library, and it was kind of weird. I kept going anyway because I really wanted to see if I liked it or not. And then it got really mushy, so I said no to that, too! FINALLY I started The Last Sin Eater by Francine Rivers, which was a recommendation from my mom. I’m half way in and LOVE it. I should have started it ages ago. 😉

Here’s the total stack of books I’ve gotten in the past 8 days. I’m so overwhelmed. It’s the best feeling in the world.

emily

On the left is the Ascendance Trilogy series, plus I have a second copy of The False Prince, but it’s SIGNED!! (I mentioned my Aunt Corrie getting me a signed copy from the author last week.) Look at this!!

emily

The on the right is my stack! On the top is The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor. My mom and dad picked it up for me at one of the bookstores – it’s an Alice in Wonderland retelling! Next are Upside Down in the Middle Of Nowhere and Absolutely Almost, which I talked about in last week’s post. And then I’ve got the books my lovely pen pal Brooke sent me: the first in the 39 Clues series, Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale, and Beauty and the Beast: The Only One Who Didn’t Run Away by Wendy Mass. Oh, and on the bottom is Rose Under Fire – the sequel to CODE NAME VERITY!! CNV had me sobbing with my heart in a hundred tiny pieces, but. I shall read the sequel anyway.

SOOOO. That was a long post! If you read this all, I shall give you a reward. Haha just kidding I’m completely broke. You know with the turtle I bought and also some cute clothes I got in Florida. Among other things. (Who am I kidding I’m always broke.) Anyway your reward can be getting to comment below! Because I love hearing from you!

Off to hand out ‘missing cat’ flyers to my neighbors. Please don’t forget to pray for my cat; she’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But we love her and we will find her! 🙂

Doesn't she look sooo happy?! Lol she was really ticked off at me for taking this picture. :D

Until Monday. =)

  1. You’re back!! 😀 I hope you find your cat!!…
When I didn’t see your post Friday or Saturday, I figured you’d do a recap of your trip, which is always fun!!
That’s too bad about When Audrey Met Alice. I’ve never read it but I’ve seen it around Goodreads. It looked interesting so I went around to see if I could handle the content. BUT I FOUND THIS REALLY GREAT WEBSITE:
    https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

You type any type of movie/book/song/video game and it’ll tell you any Language warnings, drug/drinking, warnings or icky part warnings. I just use it for book, but it’s SUPER helpful when choosing out what book to get next, so I thought I’d share it…

GAH Emily!! Brooke convinced me!!! I bought Cinder, and just like you, it lost me the first chapter and a half BUT OHGOODNESS THE REST IS THE BEST. Now, you don’t just have Brooke, and, Madi getting you to read it YOU HAVE ME TOO! 😛 I bought the whole series in one BANG, because I figured the first book would leave at a cliffhanger and ohgosh, I’m so happy to have the second one ready for me.
    Reeeaaaddd it please!

    1. Yesss I’m back! Aww thanks. I’m so worried about her. I hope we find her too. 🙂
Yes! I love making trip recaps. They’re so much fun. I’m glad you guys don’t mind the little peeks into my personal life, too.
I know right? I was thinking it looked really cute too. Though this isn’t the first time this has happened. Ugh.
OMS, I’ve seen that! I haven’t really looked into it but I will totally have to now. Thanks for reminding me, Daisy!
OHHH MY GOSH. You’re so right. I MUST READ IT!! There are so many books. Soooo. Many. >_< Aye aye aye. Must. READ. 😀

  2. Looks like you had tons of fun! I totally love the jump photo- I did that with my best friend, except we were jumping off my deck.
I’m sorry you didn’t like Rebel Belle. I was talking about Harper with my friend and she said the mc reminded her of me a bit. Didn’t you not like it because of the blood incidents?
I got the False Prince from the library! I can’t wait to read it!
You’re turtle’s so cute! And I hope you find your cat soon.

    1. I DID HAVE TONS OF FUN!! Ohmigosh. Best week ever. 😉 Aww, cool. I bet it looked really neat jumping off your deck.
No, it wasn’t that, actually. Though the first part when she’s in the bathroom was a tad freaky, it didn’t bother me too bad… I got about one or two chapters after that. It was the scenes with her boyfriend. When she talks about their kisses felt like it would “lead to something more” and she says “Not tonight, babe…” No. Not for me.
OMG! YAY! I hope you like it. No, scratch that. I hope you LOVE it. Can’t wait to see what you think.
Isn’t she? I love watching her in her tank. Currently she is digging a hole in the pebbles of the bottom of her tank. Now sitting on top of my sister’s turtle. Weird turtles. 😀 Thank you so much. I hope we do too. I miss her already bunches. 🙁

  3. Sounds like you had a TON of FUN! OH my word….still super jealous on that signed copy of The False Prince….. And I LOVE THAT Hannah Everly SKIRT!!! I want one!!!! Awesome post! And hoping you find your cat!

    1. I DID, OH MY GERSH, MADI. It was a blast.
Hahaha. I knew you would be. I still can’t believe my aunt got it for me!! She said she emailed Jennifer A. Nielsen about it, so you could probably ask her too if you wanted! 🙂
Isn’t it so cute?? You really should. I had to pinch pennies to get it, but it was so worth it. I’m in love.
Thanks! I know we will. She’s out there somewhere, the crazy cat. 😉

  4. I really hope you find your cat!! My cousins are ages 12, 12, and 10 and my sister and I fit right in, and they are like built in friends! In fact, we just spent a weekend together at my grandma’s house and also we found a turtle too!

  5. 🙁 that’s to bad about your cat. I hope you find her soon! Our cat lily has given us a few scares. Anyways I’ll pray for you!
Ooh. The trip looks like so much fun! Can’t wait to hear all about it in the letter!
That’s to bad about all those book duds. 🙁 well at least you have an amazing book from the library (*cough*Cinder*cough*).
See^(Daisys comment). You just have to read them!

    1. Thanks. Yeah. Well, Maisy likes to slip out the door but we just have to say her name and she darts back inside. I’m super worried about her, and mad at no one in particular. It’s not really anyone’s fault, I just really want my kitty back! 🙁
Yes, it was!! That reminds me. I reeealllyy need to work on your letter today!
Hahaha. Yes, I KNOOOW I need to read Cinder. Okay, okay, I get the hint. I WILL & I SHALL. 😀

  6. Hi, I was wondering if you can read the Betsy Tacy series out of order…

And also I’m getting a new book and I need to make it last for at least a week which is super hard for me, so do you have any tips?
Thanks so much and I really hope you find your cat 🙂

    1. Hi Hannah! Ooh, that’s a good question. Well, I’ve only read the first book in the series so far. (I can’t wait to read the others!) However, I do know that the books follow the two girls, Betsy & Tacy from preschool all the way to college. I wouldn’t suggest it just because it would make more sense to start out when they’re younger, so the characters and everything make sense in the later books. 🙂

Oh my gosh! I don’t know! That’s definitely a hard one for me, lol. Hmm… well, I would limit myself to a certain number of chapters per day. Though that can be super tricky, especially if the chapters end on a cliffhanger. I hope you can do it! 🙂

Thanks, Hannah. I hope I do too. 😉

      1. Thanks! I was just wondering because in the first Betsy Tacy book, they’re like 4 or 5 and I’m not sure if I would be inteested in it. Do you think its a good book? Thanks again!!!!

        1. Yeah, I felt the same way. They’re pretty short though, so I’m just reading them through. They’re pretty good. If you’ve ever read the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary they’re a bit like those. The first one basically shows how Betsy and Tacy meet and their antics as little girls. It’s cute! Excited to get to the later books! 😉

  7. The turtle is so adorbs.
Also, your skirt is adorbs. And your hair is SO adorbs. (I think I comment on your hair every time I see a picture of it? But seriously, I love it so much and want to get a haircut like it. :D)
(Also, I just used “adorbs” for the first time and that was an interesting experience. :p)
(It’s late and I’m in a really rambling mood I’M SORRY.)

Interested to hear your thoughts on Palace of Stone. From what I remember (I read it years ago), I didn’t like it at all, but the most recent one, Forgotten Sisters was pretty good.

Glad you had fun on your trip!
    Katie Grace | A Writer’s Faith

    1. She IS, isn’t she? I can’t stop watching her. So tiny and cute!
Lol, thanks!! Oh, I won’t stop you from doing it. *flips hair* I love it myself. 😉
Haha! Yeaaahh, I don’t really use that word a lot either. But it’s totes necessary when referring to my hair.
Ooh, okay. I can’t wait to see what I think too. I really liked Princess Academy, but I have heard people say Palace of Stone isn’t their favorite. Either way, can’t wait to see how it goes.
      Thanks, Katie! 🙂
