stacking the shelves

‘Ello everybody! I haven’t done very many Stacking the Shelves lately because I don’t always buy books every week. But when I do, I buy several! =) This week I got five new lovelies for my shelves – two from a used book store and three from a consignment sale! Because my mom brought in some books to trade in, we had a store credit so two of the books were free! (Although we will not be doing that again because we only got about 50 cents each out of about 25 or 30 books.)

There’s my stack! I’m so, so SO excited to be reading all of these. (It looks like my cat, Maisy, is too! I was taking the picture and she decided she wanted to love on the books… and then after I took the picture, knocking them all off my desk to lay down!)

On the bottom is How my Private, Personal Journal Became a Best Seller (what a mouthful!) by Julia DeVillers. If you’ve never heard of the book, you may have heard of the Disney movie, Read it and Weep (I believe it’s on Netflix!), which is based on the book. I’ve seen Read it and Weep countless times, and when I realized it was actually a book I really wanted it! I’m excited to see how different the movie and book are.

The next book up is Eggs by Jerry Spinelli. I’m really not a big fan of Eggs, but I think I’ll like the one by Jerry Spinelli. (And apparently my cat, Maisy does, too! Isn’t she adorable??) I’ve read Stargirl and Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and loved them! Both of the books were really sweet and poetic, and I think Eggs will be, too.

Once was Lost by Sara Zarr is the next book. I got it at a local consignment sale, and recognized the author’s name. But it wasn’t until just now I looked up Sara Zarr, and she’s also the author of the The Lucy Variations, which I just traded in at a used bookstore today for Eggs and How my Private, Personal Journal Became a Best Seller. I was never able to get through The Lucy Variations because it was very slow and dull, but I hope Once was Lost will be different!

I also got Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton! I actually have the book on my Kindle, but decided to get the physical book because I love Bethany’s story so much. (The movie is awesome, too!)

And finally, I got Ida B by Katherine Hannigan. I’d seen this book before, and it looks so cute!

Have any of you read any of these books? What books did you guys get this week?

Emily

    1. Haha, yes they do! I have a bookmark that says “A cat’s favorite place to nap is on whatever you’re reading.” It’s so true!

I know! I love Bethany Hamilton. I wanted the book in print, and I love looking at the actual pictures from when she was attacked. She was 13. There’s even a picture of the shark that actually bit her!

  1. Lol. I need that bookmark ^. My cat and I read together so often. Wether I’m on the floor, bed, or in my chair she comes and lays on me.
I have a LOT of books I need to read. I am not going to buy a book until I finish most of my books( then again I said that last week and I just bought 4 more. In my deffense all the books were 30% off and three of them were used). I’ve heard of Ida B but never read it. I want to get Soul Surfer. My family.was living in Hawaii when she got attacked and once my dad sat behind her on an aiplane I believe. I’ve seen the movie and I really liked it. I’m either going to buy it next month for my trip or put it on my birthday list( my birthday is next month). I’ve never heard of Eggs. I’ve never read Stargirl. Ive seen read it and weep and I looked at the book once at amazon butone peeson had said stuff about.swearing and all that so I never bought it. I’ll try totalk to my mom today. I’m just nervous to ask. She’ll probably want to email you and stuff to make sure your a teen age girl :).

    1. Me, too! I love my cats. Early this morning, I was sitting in my bed answering comments on For the Bookish and Maisy was sitting at the end of my feet with her neck back so she was watching me upside down! I read aloud to my cats, too, sometimes. I like to think they know what I’m saying and are enjoying the book. 😀
Haha, I’ve given up saying “I’m not going to buy another book until…” I just love the feeling of having books to read, like most people like the feeling of having money to spend!
No way! That’s really cool. I’ve always wanted to visit Hawaii, ever since I gave a report on it in the first grade. (I think my mom still has that report!) And my little sister says she wants to get married in Hawaii, lol!
Happy early birthday! I went to my cousin’s birthday party last night. We went to see the new Cinderella. (Have you seen the trailer for it? It was awesome!) And then to Chick-fil-a. Are you doing anythign special?
Stargirl was really sweet. it’s about a little teenage romance, but also more about the main character realizing that even though Stargirl was quirky was a little weird to everyone else, he was willing to be friends with her because he saw what was special about her. I’m hoping Eggs will be as good as Stargirl. I like the title. “Eggs.” Haha!
Oh, I didn’t know that. I only saw it once on thriftbooks.com. I haven’t read any reviews on it. Hmm…
Okay. 🙂 My mom will probably do the same thing.
Do you have any book recommendations? My dad might take me to Barnes & Noble today. I’m thinking about getting One for the Murphys. I think you said something about reading it one time. Was it any good?

      1. I’m one of my cats favorite. The other cat only bugs me when no one else is around. Do you remember where you got that bookmark?
I know wht you mean. I have both. I was born in Hawaii. I have been there a few times. That’s another reason why I want to read the book. I’ve seen the Cinderella trailer. My sister really wants to see it. She might be able to convince my mom to go. It has 2 downtane abbey characters in it. I don’t think I’m doing anything this weekend.
I just don’t know if stargirls my kind of book. I think my lebrary has it though so I’ll probably give it a try.
Get One for the Murphys. I have a story behind it( I think I’ve told you it). Also the Princess Academy is good. You should give that series a try. I like Percy Jackson but it does talk about Greek gods a lot. Ooh I just remmbered an author. See if they have any books by Diane Zahler, her books are pretty good. I haven’t finished this book but you may like it. You would find it in the teen section and its called This Star Won’t Go Out. I have had it for a long time but I need to finish it. That’s all the books I can think of at the moment.
I’ll try to talk to my mom today.

        1. One of my cats is a rescue. He was pulled into a storm drain when he was a kitten, and my grandpa found him. He’s really laid back. He let us dress him in baby doll clothes and push him around in a doll stroller when my sister and I were younger! The other one we got this past summer. She’s almost a year old, and she definitely has a mind of her own. 🙂
In the book, she talks about all the different beaches she surfed on. I really love it so far!!
The movie was so good!! My mom and dad love Downtown Abbey. 😉
I honestly like the sequel better – Love, Stargirl. You could probably read it first and still understand everything. It’s a little different than Stargirl.
I got One for the Murphys today!! The Princess Academy was just a few shelves about it, and I asked my dad which one sounded better. (He said One for the Murphys.) 😉 I’m about 2 chapters in and love it.
What is your story behind it? I think you told me at one point or another.
I’ve heard of This Star Won’t Go Out! I’ve wanted to read it for a while. Do you like it? It sounds really sad. 🙁
My mom said it’s fine for the pen pal thing, as long as you’re really a teenage girl! She said if your mom is on Facebook they could private message, to confirm we’re both who we say we are. 🙂 Her facebook is Angel Courtney Cope. Or they could email each other.

        2. Hey, Brooke! I just finished One for the Murphys this morning. (That’s less than 24 hours! Whew. I almost set my new record.) It’s going on my favorites shelf. I’m SO glad I got it. That ending though… Oh my goodness!! It makes me want to convince my mom and dad to foster a child someday, haha. 🙂 Seriously, though, I LOVED it!

    1. You do? I’m not sure which book to read next! I just finished “Ungifted” by Gordon Korman today. (The review will be up on the 23rd. I gave it five stars!) Still debating what to read… it’s between Eggs and Ida B!

  2. Emily, you have to read the Running Dream. I think you would love it. Oh, and, did you get my email? I sent it through the contact me page.

      1. I have a post on my blog. I’ll try again, and I forgot to add this, but your cat is just to cute! My parents are thinking about a puppy, and a kitten. I don’t k’m ow if we’ll get them though.
