vacation recap!

I’M BACK, BOOKWORMS!

It’s been twelve days. Twelve glorious days of vacation and I’ve come back six books behind my reading goal with a major Disney hangover. I’m also drowning in piano recital pieces and wrapping up the school year. Help.

Coming back from vacation is a bit like taking down a Christmas tree – no one likes to think about it. But being back home does mean I have wifi again – which means I can talk to all of you, because I’ve missed my bookish buddies! I refreshed my email once we stepped off the ship (if you weren’t aware, my family and I enjoyed a magical trip aboard the Disney Fantasy Cruise), and I was stunned by all the bookish happenings that I missed! WE HAVE SO MUCH TO DISCUSS, book nerds.

Speaking of bookish things, i kind of overestimated myself and thought i could read but read all of one chapter on the trip and now i’m sitting here sort of like

and DON’T cross me and tell me “Oh but sweet Emily, don’t you know you never have time to read on vacation?” just don’t say that. Because people say that every time I go on a trip and I never believe them. and I never will. I shall insist on taking three books with me on every vacation because what if? What if I am monstrously bored and zip through three books, hmm? And what if that one time I believe you and am not supplied I get bored?? TELL ME.

I made up for it, however, by breezing through The Crown by Kiera Cass when I got back. It is the last book in The Selection series, Fandom Blessed By Emily’s Fangirliness For Two Whole Years, and it just hit shelves on the 3rd. It may not be my favorite in the series, but I was a ball of feels by the end. THE LAST ONE. Oh and I’m reading Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys at the moment. I’ve been forewarned to not get too comfortable. I also almost shipped two people but we already know that ship’s gonna sink. Ha ha ha ha.. hahaha. (no one gets my book puns BUT SHOUT OUT TO THE GREATS WHO DID.)

Do talk to me below and tell me everything I’ve missed – the ARCs and releases and authors and reading challenges! 🙂

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some photos as a recap from my trip.

ship

Our beautiful ship before we boarded!

salttothesea

Of course I had to take a picture of this. GET IT. SHIPS. SINKING.

olaf

My sister and I met Olaf on Disney’s island Castaway Cay.

sunset

The sunsets had to be my favorite part of the night.

dessert

Here I am with my dessert, “Princess Aurora’s Sundae.”

belle

and obviously I had to meet my favorite princess. What bookworm doesn’t love Belle?

I’ll be back Friday with a tag for you wormies! DISCUSS below: do you still insist upon coming supplied on vacation? Do you read on vacation? DO YOU READ IN THE CAR? (I can because I’m abnormal super bookworm Emily, huzzah.) And did ya miss me?? (pssh why bother. of course you missed me.)

  1. Emily you look like you had so much fun!! And you look SO beautiful in those pictures oh my gosh!! That last one you look very mature 🙂

I know who does read on vacations like that LOL? I never find the time and even now I’m like 2 months behind in my reading goal. I had to hunker down for my AP exam (so glad to be done with that ha) but school is still so much. I’m still only halfway through the Emerald Atlas by John Stephens. Trying to power through and then get my hands on the last MDBC book!! Has it come out yet? I think it has. XD

Best of luck finishing school Emily! Loved your pictures 🙂

    1. Oh I did! Aww, thank you Grace. 🙂

LOL, I know right? Ain’t nobody got time for that! (*cringe* EXCUSE ME GRAMMAR FOR THE SAKE OF HUMOR okay Grace?? Haha!) Ugh, I feel you. Luckily I haven’t been in a book slump since coming back from vacation, which I am so so grateful for. (Thaaanks brain!) Seriously though, if you’re working your way through AP’s, you have a valid excuse girl.

Yes, the last MDBC book has come out! It was available on May 3. I was lucky enough to read it as an ARC and *cue chorus of angels* hallelujah! It was wonderful. A very bittersweet ending, too, I might add.

  2. I was so happy when you got back. Haha. I had missed you so much. I did okay the first few days, I went through minor withdraws but nothing major. But on Friday I just cracked. I sat around staring at my ipod wondering how I was ever going to make it. I looked at your blog a billion times.
As you know, I did pretty good reading wise while you were gone. And I made like four little books. I’ll have to show you them sometime. I’m seriously considering starting an etsy someday.
I was so overwhelmed book wise for a bit. I had birthday books, library books, and 3 books came out on May 3( I mean that I know of. There could have been a lot more.). Three. And I got them all. Lol. We have to talk about MDB Camp and The Crown.
Meeting Richelle Mead this week…. umm other than that I can’t think of anything you don’t already know ;p.

    1. Of course you were. Because who doesn’t miss Emily? (Our friendship is based solely on humbleness and modesty Brooke, I promise.) Haha, really? Well now I’m just plain flattered.

As I know, yes yes. Gosh Brooke I’m going to have to start taking my books with me into the bathroom 24/7 just so I can keep up with you. (I can go all Alfred on you: “the lavatories offered some peace. I decided to stay for an hour. Or two.” Ah sweet mislead Alfie.)

OMG, SO many books came out on May 3 that I lost track. MDBC, The Crown, The Unexpected Everything, and probably a thousand others that I’ve seen. Every time I saw one publishing on May 3 on Goodreads I was like “Wow May 3 is Book Birthday to all the Books!” We have to! We haven’t really talked about those a whole lot, have we? Pfft what don’t I know?

  3. Welcome back, Emily!!

When I had a week off to go to GA (driving 12 hrs. there, 12 hrs. back), I brought, like, six books – not counting my Kindle books.

And I got 15% into Frankenstein, read one novella, and one 450 paged book. WHAT EVEN. And I’m a very fast reader. I’ve been in a book slump ever since. I KNOW.

    Happy reading! 😀

    1. Heyy, Alyssa! It’s good to be back. 🙂

AHH YOU CAME TO THE LAND OF GREATNESS? I’ve got Georgia on my mind all the time – I live just outside of Atlanta. Well *of course.* If I find a bookstore on vacation I will buy a book… or two… or three.

GO ALYSSA. YOU CAN DO IT. Happy reading! 😀

  4. Glad to have you back! Sounds like a fun vacation 🙂

I’m reading In Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult. I think you’d really like it.

    1. It was! Thanks, Lu. 🙂 Ooh, that is a cute one. I actually own it. I wasn’t as big of a fan of the second one but it’s a sweet summery read isn’t it?

      1. Yes 🙂 Honestly it’s okay, but definitly not my favorite. I feel like somethings are kinda out of the blue. Oh well.

I haven’t been reading for a few months because I just can’t get into a book I like. Finally my mom forced my to buy a book at Barnes and Nobles.

  5. Yes. Being supplies with book on vacation is an ABSOLUTE MUST no questions asked. We’re actually going on a vacation at the end of this month, and I have The Maze Runner, The Book Thief, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas all ready to go. 🙂

AND YES the car is like my favorite place to read. 🙂

    1. Thank you! I mean, who could leave even leave the house without at least one book?? *shivers* (or at least more, geez.)

CAN WE JUST TAKE A MOMENT. Jonathan, what a stack. Please also promise me you’ll come prepared with a bullet proof heart when reading The Book Thief and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas okay? Just… approach with caution. I’m about a hundred pages into The Maze Runner and I just don’t know if I can do it. It’s not my style, but we’ll see.

I pity those we can’t do it!

  6. You seem to have had a great time! I love all the photos you took 🙂 I always insist of taking 3+ books with me whenever I go on vacation and most of the time, I end up reading nothing as well XD. But I still keep insisting on bringing my books with me cause I just can’t go on vacation without my books. It’s just one of those bookish vicious circles we book lovers always seem to get into XD.

    1. I did, Soudha! Thank you! Oh, absolutely. I’d make it a 3++. *sigh* I take three dozen books with me and never read them as well. I suppose that’s the way the world goes ’round. (And isn’t it a shame?) I SHALL NEVER BREAK THE HABIT.

  7. Welcome back to real life, Emily! 🙂
Haha, I love that first GIF!! XD That’s totally me after reading a sad book…or realizing I haven’t wrote anything in daaaaayyyyss. >_<
Beautiful ship, beautiful book, and absolutely gorgeous sunset. 🙂 And I got your book pun. 😉 I haven't read "Salt to the Sea", but I've heard that there's a ship sinking in it. 😉 Good one there!

I ALWAYS take books on vacation. (Last fall my family went on vacation for about two weeks. I left home with four books (none of which I finished :P) but I came home with nine… What can I say? I found a delightful bookstore. ^_^)
Yes, I read on vacation – especially camping. 🙂 Yes, I can read in the car – and do with great frequency. Gotta use those hourlong car rides somehow. 😉 And, yes! Of course you were missed! 😉

    1. *groans and waves wearily* heyyy faith. I am stumbling back to the real world. send help. Right?! That GIF appeared to me via Google and I had to use it. I think it’s a keeper. Ahhh the sunset was so beautiful. MY PUNS ARE THE BEST no one can deny it. I wish I could find more bookstores on vacation but I never do! But if there’s even a museum where we go, I will buy a memoir or book of some sort. 🙂
