stacking the shelves & catching up

Hey, everyone!

I’m SO sorry I haven’t posted in so long. I think that’s been the longest I went without posting. (Or maybe not… I’m really sorry!)

Since it’s been so long, I decided to make this post a stacking the shelves/catch-up/2015 goals/other stuff and who-knows-what post. I’ve gotten a few books recently; mostly historical fiction (I’ve been binge-reading a lot of those lately, haha!) The one I was most excited for was The Princess Spy by Melanie Dickerson…

Isn’t it beautiful?! I think I might cry… I started reading Melanie’s fairy tale retellings about a year and a half ago. My mom ordered the first three (there were only three out then), when we went vacationing in Florida, and I read all three by the beach! I’ve been wanting The Princess Spy since it came out and a few months ago and freaked out because there was only one copy at the Christian Family Book Store! 🙂 Of course, I bought it.

I now have the whole series!

I also bought two books on my Kindle thanks to my favorite blog, Books for Christian Girls. Visit Lindsey over there, and get lots of great recommendations weekly. Her reviews include how much spiritual or sexual content was in the book, and rates it by age. (For example, for one book she might rate it two stars for preteens and three for older teens, etc.)

I got A Bride’s Dilemma in Friendship, Tennessee for $2 on my Kindle!

And A Bride Opens Shop in El Dorado, California for the same price!

My grandma also bought me Keep Smiling Through by Ann Rinaldi for Christmas, which I’m very excited to read!!!

I also got this “Keep Calm and Write On” picture frame my aunt got for me!

Don’t you just love it?! It’s on my desk now in front of me. =)

As for my biggest gifts, I got a COMPUTER!!! Well, a laptop. I got a Chromebook, and it’s amazing!!!

I also got an Instax Mini 8 from my grandparents! (A Polaroid-style camera.) And it’s PINK! Isn’t it gorgeous?

So what did you guys get for Christmas? I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Ahhhhh I LOVE THE NEW DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!! And i have been wanting a Polaroid camera since FOREVER. I got a new tablet with an attachable keyboard, a soft new sweater, some books that I’ve been wanting, I got my ears pierced and cash from mY grandparents. BTW I’m stealing that ‘sorry’ gif! I love it!

    1. Thank you! I get bored easily, I guess. 😉 I’ve been wanting one forever, too – it’s so cool! Ooh, that sounds neat. What kind of tablet? I have a Kindle Fire HD with an attachable keyboard, it’s really nice to use. All of that stuff sounds great! Haha, feel free. I love it, too!

  2. Ooh! You changed your blog design around again! I like it, but I pretty much love all of your blog designs. I really want to start reading some of Melanie Dickerson’s fairytale retellings because I love fairytale retellings so much. I have a chromebook too, and I love it. You have a polaroid?!? That’s so cool! I’ve always been fascinated by the automatic printing capabilities of those cameras. I got quite a few things for Christmas because I have a huge family but among them were a Nike giftcard and a Visa giftcard, books, clothes, craft kits and some stocking stuffers.

    1. Yep, I sure did. I think I get bored way too easily, lol. Thank you so much! I really love playing around with the designs. You should absolutely read Melanie Dickerson’s books! They’re so intriguing. Isn’t the Chromebook awesome?! It’s a really great computer for me. Oh, me, too. The only problem is the film is super expensive! It’s like $1 per picture. Wow, that stuff sounds awesome. I got a lot of clothes, too. I like craft kits – actually, my sister got a sewing machine, and I think I may get her to teach me how to use it! 😉

  3. I am warning you now this will probably be a long comment ;p. I got multiple books for Christmas which include the diary of Anne Frank, Sleeping beauty’s daughters, jane eyre, a few pre-order books, and understood Betsy( that’s the book the mother daughter book club are going to read). I also got some yarn and a crochet book( I’m pretty good), some little stuff, and a trip to an amusement park ( sorry for safety reasons I can’t say the name) from my brother with my sister probably over spring break. I am starting to really like historical fiction. Could you give any good recommendations? I will have to look up melanies books. I have been stressing about starting a blog( ask my cousin. I have asked her multiple times if I should start one. She said yes). I looked at the links you gave me and they look amazing. I have even come up with names. These are the possible blog names: brookworm( do you get it? ;p my name is brooke),

    1. Sorry I had to start a new comment it would not let me write more. Here are more blog names: books in the life of Brooke, Brooke N books, Brooke and books. I would want my blog to be about books but I would not limit myself to books. I would probably write about other stuff too. It would probably be sort of like your blog. I am still debating wether to have a blog or not. I love your blog and your new design. I couldn’t wait until you posted something new. I was so surprised when I came on and the design was changed.

        1. one last question i swear. :P. Is the selection good? I have seen a lot of mixed reviews and I don’t know wether to buy it or not. I really liked the Princesses Academy and people say that is similar to the selection.

          1. Hey, Brooke! Your comments always make me smile. They’re my favorite. 😉

Wow, all those books sound amazing! Jane Eyre is the best book ever. (So is the Diary of Anne Frank, but make sure you have tissues!) There are so many amazing historical fiction books I love, but to name a few on my bookshelf, my favorites are The Family Tree series by Ann M. Martin (these require tissues, too, though! The fourth and final book in the series just recently came out – I haven’t read it yet though!), Countdown by Deborah Wiles, Interrupted and Chasing Jupiter by Rachel Coker (she’s my #1 favorite author! PLEASE read her books, they’re absolutely amazing), and The Secret Diary of Sarah Chamberlain by Sarah Norkus. There are a lot of great recommendations on http://booksforchristiangirls.blogspot.com/ 🙂 I read Melanie’s books out of order, because I didn’t know there was an order, but the order is The Healer’s Apprentice (I feel like this is the longest and slowest one though, so it’s my least favorite), The Merchant’s Daughter, The Fairest Beauty, The Captive Maiden, and The Princess Spy. It doesn’t really matter if you read it in order, but it makes more sense because the characters from the other books end up in the newer ones. (Like Carson Dawson in Absolutely Truly! 😉 ) Also, The Selection is one of my favorite series. It’s not a Christian Fiction series, but the author was inspired by Ruth and Esther’s stories in the bible, which is pretty neat. There’s a lot of kissing, but other than that they’re pretty clean and I love them. The Main Character reminds me a lot of Cassidy in the MDBC, and it’s sort of a modern fairytale-like world, which I love.

About your blog, I personally LOVE Brookworm is the best. It’s so creative. I actually would love to incorporate my name into the title of my blog, but Emily is kind of hard to do that, haha. I would totally follow your blog if you started one, it sounds like you’re a lot like me, and I would love to read your blog!! I know, I changed my design AGAIN, lol. I get bored really easily, and I like messing around with the designs. I’m thinking about saving up my money to buy a really nice theme I’ve had my eye on. 😉

Let me know if you do start one, okay? I really hope you do!!

  4. The ‘sorry’ gif is from my favorite Taylor Swift music video!! 🙂 I am kinda sorta completely obsessed with her!!! I really want to read the princess series now. Brooke ^^ I think Brookworm is PERFECT!!!!!!!! 😉

        1. You did?! In April? Speak Now is probably my favorite album, and The Story of Us is my other favorite, next to YBWM. Though, to be fair, my favorite song by Tay changes daily depending on my moods. 😉
