Well, last week didn’t go exactly as planned, but I’m okay. I had a fantastic time at my church camp – my SIXTH year at this particular church camp – and even though I didn’t get to go to the Dream Factory Workshop, I know it’s all in God’s hands. (Whatever He’s got in mind, ’cause I was REALLY looking forward to the workshop, as you all know.)
See, two of the girls (of about four, I think), dropped out of the workshop last-minute due to family emergencies. Rachel decided to cancel the workshop (though she was very reluctant about it), and sent my mom and I an email Wednesday night. (I was supposed to leave church camp early on Thursday morning.) So… that was pretty frustrating. And very disappointing, considering all the time, preparation, and money that went into it. I was in tears!
However, after talking to my mom, I decided to trust God that everything would turn out fine. The workshop would (and will) be an amazing experience. Hopefully I’ll still get to go to the next one, as we’ll save the money from this one for the same thing… and I’ll have an awesome time. Originally, the first workshop was planned for the first week in May, and then got moved to June. Turns out, we lost my great-grandmother that week, and needed to go to her funeral. So I’m being faithful here, because I was SUPER sad about missing out on the workshop this week!
THAT SAID… I had a great week at church camp. It’s always an incredibly fun, inspiring week, and this year was one of the best years!
Here’s my cabin! I’m the girl with the white flower in my hair. We (my cousins, Sydney, Olivia, and I), usually have a cabin with twenty or twenty-five girls, but this week there were nine of us! I loved having the smaller group. Probably one of the best cabins I’ve had so far. 😉 (The two in the back row are my awesome counselors, Ms. Kara and Mrs. Tiffany.)
I made a video/slideshow thing since there were so many pictures. You can watch it here or below:
In other news, I am in such a book slump. There hasn’t been much time for reading these past two weeks or so, and now… I just can’t get myself into another book. I’m reviewing Ana of California (which hits shelves June 30th), as part of The Fantastic Flying Book Club on July 1… but according to my Kindle, I’m only 15% in. 🙁 Sooo I’ve GOT to finish that in less than a week. Wish me luck…
After that, I’m hoping to finally get to The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest by Melanie Dickerson – her most recent book which I won in a giveaway about a month ago. (I know! Horrible!) Oh, and I finished Sadie Robertson’s book, Live Original, most recently, on Monday. I started it on Easter (nonfiction books take me much longer!), so I’m happy to say I have read and loved it!
Now that I’m back home and (slowly) getting back into the blogging groove, look for me dropping by at your blogs again. I’ve been so lazy coming back this week… I think I’m still catching up on all the sleep missed at camp, haha. 😉
How have you been? I’ve missed talking to you all in the comments! What books have you been reading? Anything exciting happening/happened this summer? Can’t wait to hear from you.
Glad your back Em. 🙂 Missed your posts in my inbox! Sounds like you had a brilliant time at summer camp! I didn’t go this year, which was sad, but I didn’t go last year either so, ya. I haven’t read anything these past couple of weeks either! But only because I don’t have any books!! I can finish a 200 something page book in roughly 5 or 6 hours, depending on how many breaks I take. Books don’t last very long in my hands! I saw that in your currently reading widget thingy, that you were reading Amy and rogers epic detour. How was it? I read an excerpt of it, and I loved it! I hope to see your review soon!
And I tagged you to do the ultimate book tag! So much fun♥
I Hope to see you more around the blogosphere!!
Hey, Daisy! Haha, it’s good to hear you missed them. Thanks! 😉
Aww. It was a TON of fun. I think I’m still in “PCD” – Post Camp Depression. Lol. Slowly, but surely, I’m getting out of it.
See, there’s my problem. In the first week of June, I read four or five books a week, and now… I’m down to one. I go through phases. It really depends on my mood. 🙁
I LOVED the premise of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, but… I DNF’d it. It went too far for me, and I wasn’t okay with it. I think I was almost halfway in, so that really stunk. I’m thinking I’m going to re-read Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson soon, maybe give Since You’ve Been Gone a try.
I saw that! It does look like fun. 😉 Hopefully I can get around to that this Saturday or Sunday. 🙂
Oh, that’s too bad that you didn’t finish it! It looked really good to me. I only read up to the part were she has a breakdown at the camp sight. The excerpt had ended there. Is there anything I should be warned about? Are you going to review what you did read or are you not reviewing books you DNF’d?
I didn’t know you were away, but I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK. I actually missed your posts! And church camp looks so awesome and fun 🙂 I’ve never been to camp at all. I’m sure you had an uber great time there! And the pictures you showed were really interesting <3 Thanks for sharing your time at church camp, Emily! 🙂
Haha, thanks Jillian! Church camp was ahh-maz-ing! I can’t wait until next year. 🙂
I was wondering why I wasn’t seeing new posts in my email inbox! Ha ha it sounds like you had an awesome time! I missed helping out at VBS at my church, but my youth group will be going to an awesome Catholic retreat in mid-July, so I’m looking forward to that. 😀 Don’t worry, I’m in reading slumps all the time lately. As someone who has to take her permit test like REAL soon (this week!) the only thing I’ve been reading is the Driver’s Handbook :/ Currently making progress, slowly but surely, with Prince Caspian, but yeah. You got this, girl!
I’m glad you had such a great time at church camp! Isn’t it so refreshing to take part in one of those; most kids are probably hanging out by the pool or something >.> xD
And you’re right, it’s all in God’s hands 😉 He knows all things, ha ha. (wish I did, too, but yeah…)
Aww. Well, at least you get the youth retreat! How fun. 🙂
Lol. Good luck! In that case, Grace, (haha rhyme), at least you have an excuse for your book slump. Aye, aye, aye. Fixing to go pick up a book right now!
It is. It’s a really great experience. I love the sermons and the worship and everything… it’s just so much fun. And of course there are still other cool things to do – horseback-riding, archery, paint ball, pool, lake (!!) – but the service is my favorite part.
Lol! Don’t we all! 😀
I’m so sorry that you weren’t able to go to the Dream Factory Workshop because it got cancelled, but I know that you’ll totally have a blast when the opportunity to go pops up again. At least it looks like you had a ton of fun at church camp. I love the pictures! I’m in a bit of a reading slump, too, but I’m slowly trying to remedy that now that it’s summer. I hope you get out of your soon!
You’re back!!
My life is pretty busy considering packing for India, summer reading and whatnot. Plus, I’m starting guitar again so we have to get my guitar tuned again.
It looks like you had an amazing time at church camp!!
Hiya Emily! It looks like you guys had a blast at church camp! I did this once in my church when I was younger but it was only for a day so it wasn’t camp per say but like a retreat. 🙂 I really hope you get to go next year and like you said, it’s all in God’s hands. 🙂 so just have fiat girl sns hell always work it out. ♡
I’m so sorry your workshop was canceled! 🙁 But glad your church camp was fun! 🙂 I recently posted about a Christian song I really love if you want to check it out. 😉 (Wow, I did a lot of smiley and frowns faces in this comment!!)
Hi! I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. =) http://bookscoffeeandcake.blogspot.com/2015/06/versatile-blogger-award.html
I’d love to write something more, but it’s almost 3 am and my brain refuses to cooperate, so I’m just here to say hi. xD
Aw, sorry to hear you missed out on your event! Still, it sounds like you’ve had a good time where you could, and I hope that you have some awesome business to continue with! 🙂 Keep reading!
I’m so sorry the workshop didn’t work out. I was looking forward to it too. The day before Rachel cancelled the workshop I let myself hope for the first real time. . . and I see now that I needed to be here, here because of a family emergency, but I miss the workshop too. Somehow God’s going to work all our circumstances into such good, and all I can do is wait with expectation.
