stacking the shelves & the teenage girl tag

Hi, everybody! Today I’m doing yet another Stacking the Shelves, in which I talk about the books I’ve acquired or read this week, whether hardbound, e-book, etc. But first, I’d love it if you’d check out my guest post on Inside Out Magazine here. I had such a fun time writing it and hope to do another one soon. I highly recommend checking out Inside Out Magazine’s website, too. There are tons of great posts and inspiring thoughts.

My mom took me to the library on Thursday, and you know what happens when I get free books…

emily

I’m so excited to have so many great books! All of which I’ve either wanted for a while, heard great things about, or love the author. Plus I’ve got a nice and even amount of books (6) and three weeks to read them. (Haha! I just realized how dorky that sounds, but it’s true! It makes me happy. It really kind of bugs me when I have 7 or 9 books to read…)

Dancing Shoes by Noel Streatfield: This is #9 in The Shoes series, and I’m debating whether or not I should read it since I’ve only read #1, Ballet Shoes. I’m trying to figure out if it’s one of those series where you can skip around, or if it will only make sense if you read it in a row? Have any of you read this series?

emily

The Romeo and Juliet Code by Phoebe Stone: I’ve wanted to read this for so long! It looks so intense and sweet, and it’s the first in a series. (I love series!)

emily

Jake and Lily by Jerry Spinelli: Yes, a Jerry Spinelli book! I tried Eggs, and it wasn’t my taste… (ahahahaha), but Stargirl was amazing. I hoping that Jake and Lily is more my style.

The Secret Language of Girls by Frances O’Roark Dowell: This looks so good. Another one I’ve seen around online or wanted to get but didn’t… plus, I think I’ll really be able to relate.

Finding Ruby Starling by Karen Rivers: Long-lost twins that discover each other at long last! What’s not to love? (And find each other online, too.)

Chasing the Milky Way by Erin E. Moulton: Ooh. Deep subjects, with a light, child’s point of view. My favorite. Plus the title reminds me of Chasing Jupiter by Rachel Coker. And the cover is so pretty!

Most of them are contemporary, because I’ve been in the mood for some light, summery contemporary books! It’s that time of year again! Although Chasing the Milky Way isn’t so light thus far…

So as you could probably tell from the title, I’m also doing The Teenage Girl Tag! I’ve been tagged by Daisy @ A Bookish Flower and Trisha @ Forever Trisha. It’s taken me so long to finally get to do this, and I’m pretty excited! Thanks, Daisy and Trisha, for tagging me! 😉

So first up the rules…

  • Thank the blogger who tagged you (and if you’d like, like their post, comment or for full support follow them!) (check)
  • Post the featured picture on the tag post (check)
  • Copy and paste the rules (check)
  • Answer the following 10 questions
  • Use up to 2 gifs 😉 (or more)
  • Tag up to 6 other bloggers
  • Let the blogger know you tagged them

1.) Are you a girly-girl or a tom boy? What makes you a girly girl or tom boy?
Definitely girly. Nail polish, shopping, dresses, pink – the whole nine yards. I get disappointed when I break a nail (what?! I’m not gonna lie!) and I don’t like sports. I do like to run, and can shoot a basket if I need to (one place where my height comes in handy), but anything else? Naughta.

2.) Texting or talking?
It depends on the person. (And my mood.) Let me explain something about my personality: sometimes, I can be so done talking to someone, I want to scream. There are people I could talk with for hours about anything and everything, but sometimes I just want to be left alone. That’s what I like about texting – if I leave the conversation, it doesn’t have to be explained. And it’s easy to do so! ;P

3.) Favorite Starbucks drink?
Ooooh. In the fall, the pumpkin spice latte. Winter, the white peppermint mocha, with one less shot of everything. (It’s much too sweet for me!) In the spring/summer, I usually try out different frappuccinos. I like the strawberries and cream, and the caramel ribbon crunch. So good!

4.) Do you like your hair long or short, straight or curly? You can provide a picture of your hair too! (Front or back)
Most of you know that back in April, I cut off about eight inches of my hair. I LOVE IT. Ask my mom; I say “I love my hair!” at least once a day. My hair is so thick and curly, when it’s long it’s just frizzy. But it’s so easy to fix short! And I can wear it naturally curly more often.

5.) Pink or purple?
Pink. I like pastel and light pinks instead of hot pinks, but definitely pink.

6.) Who is your favorite female singer/s and what are your favorite songs by these singer/s?
I like (some) songs by Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, and Sara Bareilles. I also love Francesca Battistelli!

Plus she’s got my dancing skills.

7.) How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Usually thirty minutes to an hour. It depends if I’m going somewhere special and decide to wear a little makeup, whether I curl or flat iron my hair, etc.

8.) How often do you do your nails?
I’ll go a few weeks where I repaint them all the time. And then it’ll come off and I’ll just leave it for a while.

9.) Do you wear make up every day?
No. It depends on where I’m going, for one thing, but I won’t wear makeup everyday because a) I don’t need to put on makeup to go to the grocery store or sit around the house, and b) I want to keep my skin clear.

10.) Are you a burgers and fires kind of girl or salad and fruit?
Burgers and fries. I do love me a salad, though.

Alright, I tag… Olivia @ Writer’s Digest, Hannah @ Hannah Everly,  and Audrey @ The Measure of a Book. And everyone else, too!

Feel free to answer any of the questions from the tag and let me know what books you’ve gotten this week!

  1. Oh… you’ll LOVE Finding Ruby Starling!! It’s based on my favorite movie of all time, the Parent Trap. It was super good. I’ve actually wanted to read some of the other books you have too. I’ll have to look into them. Tell me if you like it! 🙂

  2. This post was so fun. Whenever I see tags I wish I could do them…. sigh….
Anyways I got your letter! Yay! So cool. I was so surprised when I saw the envelope. Its so pretty! Did it take you long to draw? Plan on spending some time on your envelope :). I will start writing a reply today! I will work on it today and tomorrow. And I will put it in the mail Sunday so it will get picked up on Monday.

    1. Sydney is the same way. She’s planning on setting up a blog soon, but her parents have to go over some guidelines and rules first. 🙂
Yay! I had so much fun decorating it. It didn’t take me long at all. I was fixing to put it in the mail and I was like “It looks so plain…” and since I had another day before the mail picked up, I decided to spend some time on it. I can’t wait to see yours. 🙂 Question: how many sticker sheets did you get? Two? I think I forgot to send you one.

      1. Lol. I can’t wait to check it out!
It looks like you had fun! Its so cute! Lol. I feel the same way. Who wants to get a plain envelope? Plus I just bought myself some prismacolr colored pencils so I need an excuse to use them 🙂 . I hope it turns out okay! I got 2. They are so cute. They are awesome!
I wish I could find the one journal I saw at walmart :(. It was hardcover and so awesomely thick! Plus it was lined! It was perfect
🙁 . If i end up journaling do you have any tips on how to do it regularly?

        1. I agree. 😉
Okay, I’ll send you the third one in my next letter.
Aww. I hope you find it, too!
Well, I’d say do it consistently, but don’t push yourself to journal too many times if you aren’t in the mood. It becomes a chore if you do that. Sometimes, even a line or two is good. I’ve realized that those entries say the most. 😉

          1. I’m working on the envelope now! I’m practicing everything on a separate peice of paper before I do it on the envelope! ( you’ll understand more when you get it ;p ).
I hope I do! That’s great advice! I really want to start. Next time I see a journal I like I’m snatching it up. Okay. Thanks!
            Anyone else have any advice?
I need to get reading! I want to finish a book before I send the letter. I think I’m going to concentrate on the envelope for now. I’m a bit of a perfectionist 🙂 ( a lot of a perfectionist. I have a problem ;p ).

          2. Okay! Can’t wait to see.
Me, too. I’ve been in a book slump since reading The Heir. I’m finally getting into another one. It has some language, though. (Chasing the Milky Way.) So glad I’ve got so many books to read!

  3. 2 posts in one!! All the more fun! 😉 You haven’t done a stacking the shelves in a long while, I’m glad you did this time! I’ve been eyeing The Romeo and Juliet Code for like a year but was to cheap to spring on it. 😛 The Secret Language of Girls is sooo good!! I actually read that one in 2nd grade, and I remembr loving it. I didn’t read it for a looooong time then last year I decided to buy it because a) I really liked the book and b) I discovered there were 2 more books in the series.(!!!) The second book is Better off friends and the last book (that I know of) is The Sound of Your Voice…only really far away. (Whew! What a mouthfull!)
This series is so fluffy and cute and it’s really great when you just need a breather from all those crazy YA books (and some MG. 😉 )
Anyway, if you can’t already tell Im really excited that you’ll be reading that book. 😉
Thanks for doing the tag! I have curly hair to, but mine is long, past my shoulders anyway. I know what you mean about the frizz. -_- But for me, it’s the other way around. If I have my hair short, it looks like something is eating my head, 😛 My long curls look like a curling iron’s curls, mostly because of my favorite gel that I use. 😉 It works amazing for curly hair!!
OK……I’m done with this long comment know……bye! 😀

    1. Same, here! I was so excited when I found The Romeo and Juliet Code in the library.
Wow. It looks like a lot of you have read some of these books. It’s good to hear some good feedback on them.
Definitely! Much easier and less overwhelming. It usually takes me a while to read heavier-content books because I need to take a break from the tears and anguish! Haha!
Wow, wish my hair was like THAT! I use some products to get the frizz out, too, so my curls are perfect.
Lol, you’re fine. 😉 I do that all the time. The worst is when I mess it up in a blog post and I have to hurry to edit it before anyone reads it!

  4. Okay so I have a question for everyone. Do you journal? And do you think I should start? I’ve made attempts at journaling when I was younger and I always journaled everyday for a week or so and then it just slowly died. I’ve been thinking about journaling ever since I saw this very, very gorgeous journal at walmart( sadly it is gone and I can’t find it anywhere).

      1. I’ve kept a journal for about two and a half years and definitely recommend it. It helps me calm down when I’m upset and see things in a new light when I look at all the things I’ve learned. Before I started this one journal, I did the same thing as you and kept starting new ones that I never kept up with. But I definitely think you should do it. Plus gorgeous journals totally keep me going. 😉

        1. Brooke, I’ve attempted journaling many times as well, but like you, my attempts always fizzle out. I’m thinking about starting journaling again but making it less strict for myself. Most of the time my journaling fizzles out because of my busy schedule, so the next time I start up I’m going to give myself more freedom. I’ll have to write something daily, but it doesn’t have to be a lot. It can be a doodle, a sentence, a quote-as long as I do something. I hope that will make it easier for me to maintain the habit. Let’s hope that both of us get back into journaling!

  5. All of these books look amazing! I grew up with the Shoes books and love going back to them for a pick-me-up. I haven’t read all of them though, so you can totally read them out of order! I don’t think that the books share the same characters, actually.

  6. Ah, so many great books! Finding Ruby Starling is already on my to-read list not only because it has an interesting concept, but because it’s told in a really unique format. And now you’ve made me add Chasing the Milky Way to my to-read list as well. I’m the same with you when it comes to pink. I LOVE pink, and I have way too much pink in my wardrobe (oh wait-that’s not possible :P), but I can’t stand hot pink or magenta. It has to be soft and pastel-y like a rose color or a salmon color. Yay for another Francesca Battistelli fan. I love her song This is the Stuff.
